🐾 THE FIRST THING I DO WHEN I MEET A DOG… IS NOTHING. 🐾

Whether I’m meeting a tiny puppy, a confident social butterfly, an unsure dog, or a deeply fearful dog, my approach is always the same:

I respect the dog in front of me.

I don’t walk straight toward them.
I don’t reach over their head.
I don’t stare at them.
I don’t pressure them to say hello.

I keep my body relaxed. My expression is soft. And most of the time, you’ll see me with a gentle smile. 😊

And one of the most important things I do?

I toss treats AWAY from me.

Why?

Because I never want to use food to lure a dog into my space when they aren't ready.

Instead, I toss the treat away and let the dog make a choice.

They can eat the treat and walk away.
They can eat the treat and look at me.
They can stay where they are.
Or, when they’re ready, they can choose to come a little closer.

That choice matters.

I want the dog to learn:

"This person isn't going to pressure me. I have control over how close I get."

And that is where trust begins. ❤️

I am trained to look at the world through the eyes of the dog in front of me. My goal isn't simply to teach people how to train their dogs.

My goal is to bridge the gap between people and dogs.

To help people understand what their dog is communicating.

To recognize when a dog is saying "yes," "not yet," "I'm uncomfortable," or "please give me some space."

Because every dog deserves to be heard.

Today, sweet Clay stopped by for a visit. And while Clay is a confident, happy boy, the same principles still apply.

I don't believe dogs need to earn our respect.

They deserve it from the very beginning. 🐾❤️

This is how we build trust.

This is how we create safer interactions.

And this is how we begin to truly understand the dog standing in front of us.

Respect first. Relationship second. Training follows.

🐾💗 Today’s Private Training Session at New Era! 💗🐾

Today I had the absolute pleasure of spending time with Licia and her beautiful girl, Marnie. 🥰

And let me tell you… Marnie was SO excited to see us today! She came running right up to me with a happy wiggle butt to say hello. 🥹💕 That alone was such a beautiful moment.

We took our time and headed out for a walk, and Marnie did AMAZING! She felt confident enough to explore at the end of her 10-foot leash, taking in her surroundings and following her curiosity. And then something really special happened…

She would choose to check in with Momma before heading back out to explore. 🥰🐾

Today, Marnie walked into New Era with a happy wiggle butt and made it very clear:

“This is my happy place!” 💗

And even when we see those exciting breakthroughs, we continue to take the happy moments slowly. Because when it comes to building confidence and creating positive associations…

✨ Slow wins the race. ✨

There’s no rushing progress. We celebrate the little moments, give our dogs the space to process, and let confidence grow at their own pace.

Next week, I’m going to have to capture that adorable happy wiggle butt while Marnie is out exploring! 😂💗

For today, Marnie finished her session with a frozen pup cup and some happy outdoor exploring with her Momma, Licia. 🥰🍦🐾

One happy, fulfilled girl! ❤️

🐾 The September 24th class is now full!

Due to popular demand, we’ve added another Cautious to Confident class starting September 20th at 2:30 PM.

This six-week class meets every Sunday and is designed for dogs 12 months and older. We’ll work on building confidence, encouraging focus, and supporting every step of the leash.

🐾❤️ MY HEART IS SO FULL… A HUGE THANK YOU! ❤️🐾

Today was one of those days that I will truly remember.

When I opened the doors to New Era Dog Training, I dreamed of creating more than just a place to train dogs. I wanted to create a space where people and their dogs could feel welcome, supported, understood, and celebrated. A place where we could build relationships, create connections, and grow together.

And today, looking around our space and seeing about 30 wonderful pups and their people walking through our doors, I was reminded of exactly why I do what I do. 🥹🐶❤️

THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to stop by our Community Open House today. Whether you came for a few minutes, stayed for a while, brought your pup, grabbed a goodie bag, entered the drawing, supported one of our amazing local businesses, or simply came to say hello — you made today special.

I am incredibly grateful for every single person who has supported New Era along this journey. Your encouragement, trust, referrals, kind words, and continued support mean more to me than you probably realize. ❤️

Today wasn't just an open house.

🐾 Ned Meets Wojo! 🐾

Today was a BIG first for Ned—he finally got to meet Wojo and Mike for a walk! 🥰

And let me tell you… Ned was ALL about Wojo! 😂 These two would absolutely run amuck together if we let them! Their energy and excitement for each other was pretty adorable. ❤️🐾

Today was actually a little challenge for Ned, but he did such a great job navigating all those big feelings and excitement. We kept it positive, gave them space, and let the walk unfold at their pace.

And of course… these boys even snuck in a little canine parkour along the way! 🐾🪵🐕 Because why just take a walk when you can climb, balance, explore, and have some fun too?! 😉

I’d say these boys had a GREAT first walk! 💙🐾

I have a feeling this may be the beginning of a very fun friendship! 🥰
