🐾 A HUGE MILESTONE FOR THE TRI-TOWN ANIMAL SHELTER! 🐾
We are incredibly proud to announce that the Tri-Town Animal Shelter, serving the Towns of North Providence, Johnston, and Smithfield, achieved a 90% save rate for the 2025 calendar year and has been recognized by Best Friends Animal Society for reaching this important No-Kill milestone. ❤️🐶🐱
Each of our three communities — North Providence, Johnston, and Smithfield — will receive a special plaque recognizing this accomplishment.
🐾 But what does “No-Kill” really mean?
A No-Kill shelter does not mean that no animal is ever euthanized. The nationally recognized benchmark for a No-Kill community is generally a 90% or higher save rate.
It means that healthy and treatable animals are given every reasonable opportunity to survive and find a loving home. Animals are not euthanized simply because they are homeless, have been in the shelter for a long time, or may be more difficult to adopt.
Reaching this milestone takes dedication, experience, teamwork, and compassion.
And the Tri-Town Animal Shelter is fortunate to have an incredible amount of experience behind the animals we serve.
🐾 North Providence Animal Control Officer Ernest Calandra — 30 years of service
🐾 Johnston Animal Control Officer Richard Sousa — over 50 years of service
🐾 Smithfield Animal Control Officer Robert Salisbury — 26 years of service
That's more than 106 years of combined Animal Control experience dedicated to helping animals and serving our communities. ❤️
This achievement is not just about a percentage or a plaque. It represents the countless dogs and cats whose lives have been saved, the animals that were given a second chance, and the families who found their new best friend.
It also represents the dedication of our Animal Control Officers, shelter staff, volunteers, rescue organizations, veterinarians, fosters, adopters, and — most importantly — the continued support of the residents of North Providence, Johnston, and Smithfield.
We are proud of what our three communities have accomplished together.
