Meet Rusty! 🐾

Rusty came to Rescue Garage in December, and he is very true to his breed—with plenty of that Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler energy and intelligence!

He’s spending some time training with us to help prepare him for his future home. And whichever lucky family adopts Rusty doesn’t just get this handsome little gem—they also get us. So to speak. 😂

Once Rusty completes his training, his new family will receive three lessons with us. We’ll teach them what he has learned, help everyone communicate clearly, and make sure both Rusty and his people are set up for success.

Rusty absolutely loves people. He wants to work, he wants to train, and he definitely wants to play. He’s smart, engaged, affectionate, and ready to find a family that will appreciate everything that makes a Cattle Dog such a fun little powerhouse.

Someone is going to be very lucky to call this boy theirs. ❤️

🐾 Foundation Puppy Training: Where It All Starts 🐾

This little 12-week-old Goldendoodle is on Day 1, and right now training looks a whole lot like playing. And that’s exactly how we want it.

Mike is using luring to start introducing positions, but we aren’t looking for perfect sits, downs, heels, or anything else from a baby puppy. At this age, the real foundation is teaching him that working with his handler is FUN.

He’s jumping. He’s bouncing. He’s following the lure. He’s engaged. His little puppy brain is going a mile a minute. 😂 And through all of that, he’s learning some pretty important things:

🐾 Pay attention to the person holding the leash
🐾 Follow guidance and movement
🐾 Use your body to move into different positions
🐾 Try things without worrying about getting them wrong
🐾 Training = engagement, rewards, and FUN

The polished obedience comes later.

Right now, we’re building the relationship and communication system that all of that obedience will eventually sit on top of.

One of the biggest mistakes we can make with puppies is being in such a hurry to get to the finished product that we skip the foundation. We don’t expect a 12-week-old puppy to behave like a fully trained adult dog. We teach the puppy how to learn first.

Keep the sessions short. Keep the puppy successful. Let them be a little goofy. Build confidence. Build engagement. Build the relationship.

Then build the obedience.

Love the Process. ❤️🐾
