Field notes for the week of April 12. Studio buckets available this week in two sizes. 50 stem or 100 stem . Growing these roses for the last 31 years has been such a discipline. My practice of this art gives my work meaning and value which was done quietly and patiently. Every hour, every failure and every 4 am are the unseen moments that make up these years the the outside world rarely sees. Producing heavily this week; hot cocoa, creams and whites, Koko Loko, Mme Paul Massad and other blush and peach. I will be available for studio buckets on Thursday , Friday , and Saturday Delivery may be an option, just let me know. Thursday and Friday is an honor system pick up at the farm if you need to come later in the day.

As October slips away the days become short, mornings are cool at the farm, and the roses know that it will soon be time to rest . As I wonder slowly through my fields I am now finding rose hips forming on my bushes. I add them to the vessels with the roses and on their own. I find them unique and beautiful. Nature knows exactly what to do . Rose hips form for the bush to prepare for the cold and conserve resources. These hips are a type of fruit and provide food for the birds. When a rose produces hips it will stop producing flowers and new leaves as producing hips takes so much energy. Nature is always a good teacher. Is anyone else finding hips on their bushes ?

This is a follow up to my January 11 2025 post. Most Los Angeles county homeowners should have received their new 2025/2026 property tax bill. Your bill should have hit your mailbox within the last day or so. If you are a survivor that lost your home this past January, please check to make sure your assessed value reflects land value only. You shouldn’t have an amount in the improvements item. If you didn’t receive a bill and need a copy please DM me and I will be happy to get it for you. As I mentioned in my January 11 post , I have been in the title industry for 22 years as well as growing roses on my farm. Wildfire survivors, you should have filed your calamity form with the assessor by now. I am not sure if the assessor got all the forms processed to reflect the land only value . Please be sure to pay attention to your bill carefully. First half taxes become delinquent on December 10 2025. #2025

Project 52. Week 10
10/52
The roses are coming along nicely. I added Stephen Rulo (first photo) over the winter. Those will be first out, they have tons of buds ready to go in about 2 weeks The table project went well . Back story — That table was pulled off a curb years and years ago and it has served me well. Over the last few years it had started having major signs of collapse. Lee brought me a box of gorgeous tiles to fix the table. She is so generous to provide them. Those tiles have made the table a statement piece. It is a treasure. For those of you stopping by this season be sure to take a look , so worth it! See you all soon

Project 52. 2/52
This is the second week of Project 52 and I had no idea where Los Angeles would be when I started this. This post will not be about my farm. It is about what can I do to help. None of us in this city are okay. I am a fortunate one. I am still standing. I have a home. My family is okay. Too many are not these are photos I took on Thursday. Jan 9 2025. .

Let’s get to it ……………Many of you know I have been in the title insurance business for many years at the same time operating my farm. With that said if you have lost your home and need a copy of your grant deed to prove ownership or what ever else please DM me. I will get it for you. If you need your Assessors parcel number, let me know. If you need to see what the land assessment is verses the improvements let me know. I will help you and walk you through it. #💔 #😢

2025 will mark 30 seasons of Rose Lane Farms. I started this farm in 1995 with only a small portion of roses that I collected from Weeks Roses and a few other spots I still have lots of those original roses still thriving in the fields all these years later . I am rolling out Project 52 for my 30 year anniversary. It will be photos and comments every week about what it’s like to grow garden roses and how it progresses each week throughout the year. I’m inviting all for this journey and there will be some weeks that will be difficult and some weeks that are bland. Doing this is not all fluff and fragrance every week. It takes grit and ambition and accepting nature as it comes. WELCOME TO PROJECT 52
