Our Technician Case Presentations wrapped up last week, and we could not be more proud of the incredible work shared by three of our amazing Technicians: Allison, BS, Rachel, CVT, and Claudia, BS.

After months of preparation, each technician presented a complex, clinically challenging case that pushed their knowledge, strengthened their skills, and contributed to the continuing education culture that defines Central.

Events like this remind us how powerful peer‑driven learning can be and how much our team grows when we support each other’s professional development.

🎓 Celebrating Success!
We’re thrilled to share that Stephanie, Jessenia, and Claudia have graduated from CT State Community College with their degrees in Veterinary Technology!

These three outstanding team members have demonstrated unwavering dedication, compassion, and perseverance throughout their studies while continuing to play an essential role on the Central team. They are now qualified to sit for the National Exam to earn their credentials as Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT), marking an exciting and significant step forward in their careers. Their skill, commitment, and genuine love for animal care inspire us every day.

BEYOND THE SCRUBS: Meet Tiffany, Surgery Technician and Team Leader at Central North Haven!

Outside the surgery suite, Tiffany is taking on a challenge that is as inspiring as it is personal. In January, she will be running the D***y Challenge during the 2027 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. It is a goal she has been trying to reach for five years, and she is thrilled to finally be on this journey.

🏃‍♀️‍➡️ Tiffany is running for The Tommy Fund, an organization that supports childhood cancer and pediatric cancer treatments at the Hematology and Oncology Center at Smilow Cancer Center. This cause means everything to her. Her children are patients at the Hematology Center for their blood disorders, and she is running to honor the care, strength, and hope that have shaped their experience.

This is more than a race for Tiffany. It is a commitment to a community that has supported her family and a chance to give back in a meaningful way. We are proud to cheer her on as she takes on this exciting adventure and shares her training and progress with all of us.

Tiffany will also be running the New Haven Road Race Half Marathon this Labor Day in preparation for Marathon Weekend and continued support for the Tommy Fund.

Tiffany brings dedication, compassion, and leadership to Central every day. Now she is bringing that same heart to the miles ahead. We cannot wait to follow her journey. Good luck Tiffany!

We were glad to spend time with our friends at CareVet of Shoreline recently for a hands‑on CPR training session! Our VA Program Director and Technician Specialist, Brynn, CVT, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia), led this session.
Providing learning opportunities for our referring community and colleagues helps all of us strengthen the care we deliver to our shared patients.

Doctors, technicians, and assistants regularly take continuing education courses and training programs throughout the year to refresh their techniques and stay current with best practices - because better knowledge means better care. Thanks for having us CareVet!

We’re proud to share that our Ophthalmology Department is once again participating in the ACVO SAVES event this May.

Each year, board‑certified veterinary ophthalmologists across the country donate their time to provide free, sight‑saving eye exams for service and working dogs. We are honored to be part of it and proud of our ophthalmology team for continuing their service work. These exams help ensure that the incredible dogs who support, guide, and protect our community stay healthy and ready for the important work they do every day.

Two of those working dogs are seen here with Dr. Dorbandt and Dr. Looney. Delta and Echo volunteer their time with Search and Rescue along with their human caretaker, Celeste. When a natural disaster strikes, missing persons are reported, or a compass leads you astray during a deep wood camping trip or boating adventure, Delta and Echo use their incredible nose and sight to track and locate individuals in distress.

During the eye exam, we also had a great example of how seamlessly our teams collaborate at Central. Dr. Andi Looney, our Rehabilitation and Pain Management Specialist, was able to step in and examine Echo while onsite for their eye exam. Echo was recently involved in an accident and there was concern about a knee injury. Moments like this show how easily our services work together to support the whole patient.

We’re celebrating our incredible Technician Assistants all week! Last night the North Haven crew was surprised with ice cream, and this morning they were welcomed with a full bagel buffet. Their hard work, compassion, and steady support keep our hospital moving forward every day. We’re grateful for everything they do.
