Horses can be dangerous no matter how prepared you are as a rider, or how trained your horse is. I've been fortunate enough to have escaped this danger, for the most part, since I began riding horses twenty years ago. Yesterday I was not so fortunate. My personal 3 year old was a little more fresh than I thought and I caught the brunt end of that misreading. Long story short, she tripped trying to get away from the pressure and I would up underneath her. You forget how heavy they are as creatures until they're laying on top of you. I ended up breaking my tibia pretty bad. Thank goodness I listened to a friend's advice on always having your phone on you when you're riding alone, otherwise I might still be laying in the arena. I'll be out for quite a few weeks while this heals after surgery Friday. A normal day can change in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately the timing is terrible as the training season has just started, but thankful it's only a broken leg
