My name is Andrea Logan and I have been helping dogs and their people my whole life. How can Lead Dog help you?

• I will help you understand your dog’s behavioral issues and help you find the right training style for you and your dog.

• I will help you build a better bond with your dog.

• I will coach you on how to be the leader your dog NEEDS you to be – a kind, confident, consistent and calm

• We’ll make a practical plan for you to have the harmonious relationship with your dog you’ve always wanted. I offer a courtesy phone call to see if I can help you. I have been in animal welfare for over 20 years, helped rehabilitate challenging foster dogs, and helped friends, family and pet owners in the community with their dogs for some time. I have worked with several professional dog trainers of various methods and immersed myself in all things dog: taking courses for dog trainers, reading many dog training and behavior articles and books, watching videos. My personal dogs have been through all levels of obedience, and have participated in agility, nose work, rally and barn hunt. Our current dog, Luke, has been in training continually for his entire first year with us, and will continue for the foreseeable future. I have experience with positive training, balanced training, leadership, dog sports and the way your energy effects your life with your dog. The current training and dog behavior climate is at best confusing for dog parents, and filled with judgement and even shaming at worst. You can easily waste time and money going down the road with the wrong training style. Worse yet, it can leave you frustrated and damage your relationship with your dog. Maybe it already has. I can help you sort through the options, navigate resources and come up with a detailed holistic plan to build the relationship with your dog you have always wanted. We worked with Rocket and his lovely owner on Tuesday.

Rocket's family had never had a dog because keeping dogs as pets is not as common is their country of origin. It warms my heart to hear about how much they LOVE this boy. And he is such a GOOD boy!

Barkley, a diabetes alert dog, quickly turned into a literal lifesaver. Devices malfunction, tests fail and people miss things. But Barkley’s nose — and love for balls — never wavers.

Guard dogs on duty.

This morning I was outside with the dogs and found this.

At first I wondered why they were sitting like this and then realized Luke was watching the back of the property and Chobe was watching the front. It was such a cool thing to see in action.

Fostering is hard but not for the reason most of you think.

Yes, we fall in love and lose a piece of our heart every time.

But, if done right, it takes a lot of my time to transport, assess, train, and talk to adopters. I also provide my adopters with a detailed written road map.

It is disruptive to our busy lives. We have to work around other commitments including travel.

I do it with love - love for the dog, love for training and in many cases for the families who will be adopting a dog who comes with some basic training. They have chosen adoption and they deserve a solid family dog.

So next time you are frustrated with a rescue - realize this - it is a thankless job and they deserve your understanding and kindness.
