It’s Pet Obesity Awareness Day 🐾

Pet obesity awareness day is about helping other pets live longer, healthier, more comfortable lives. Obesity is an accumulation of excess body fat that results in an unhealthy body weight. While weight can be measured easily on a scale, determining a pet’s ideal body condition requires looking at more than just the number. According to the 2022 Association for Pet Obesity Prevention survey, 59% of dogs and 61% of cats are overweight.

The good news? Pet obesity is often preventable. Maintaining a healthy diet, appropriate portions, regular exercise, and routine veterinary checkups can help keep our pets healthier and happier. ❤️

If you’re unsure whether your pet is at a healthy weight, talk with your veterinary team about their ideal body condition and nutrition needs.
Here we have a Body Condition Score (BCS) chart for dogs and cats to help you visually understand what a healthy body weight looks like compared with overweight and obese body conditions.

🐾 Every pet is different, and maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of their overall health and well-being. If you’re unsure about your pet’s ideal body condition, talk with your veterinarian!

World Rabies Day 💉

Rabies is a deadly disease caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system. Once the outward signs of the disease appear, rabies is nearly always fatal.

Rabies remains a major concern worldwide, killing tens of thousands of people every year. Almost all of these deaths are due to rabies transmitted by dogs in countries where dog vaccination programs are not sufficiently developed to stop the spread of the virus. In the United States, it's not unusual for one to two people to die annually. Among animals, there were 3,834 reported cases of rabies in the U.S. in 2024. You can help prevent rabies infections by vaccinating your animals and keeping them away from wildlife that can spread the disease. Rabies is 100% preventable. Your local veterinary plays a key role in controlling rabies.

If your pet is due for vaccination don’t hesitate to give us a call and schedule your appointment ! 📅

It’s Responsible Dog Ownership Month 🐶🐾
It’s easy to fall in love with an adorable face, but bringing a pet home is a big commitment. Before adopting, take a moment to consider whether that pet is truly a good fit for your family, lifestyle, home, and other pets.

CHOOSE WISELY
Every pet has different needs. Research their personality, care requirements, lifespan, and veterinary needs before bringing them home. Some pets even reptiles, birds, fish, and small mammals require specialized veterinary care.

MAKE A COMMITMENT
Think about the full lifespan of your new companion. Some pets may be with you for just a few years, while others can be part of your family for decades.

MAKE AN INVESTMENT
Pet ownership requires time, effort, and money. Food, housing, enrichment, training, exercise, routine veterinary care, and unexpected medical needs are all part of responsible pet ownership.

KNOW YOUR LIMITS
Be realistic about the amount of time and attention you can provide. Make sure you can meet your pet’s needs for food, water, exercise, companionship, and medical care.

CONSIDER YOUR FAMILY
Think about everyone in your household including your current pets. Consider whether the new pet will be a safe and compatible addition to your family.

Adopting a pet should be about finding the right match, not just the cutest face. 🐶🐱

A little research before adoption can help create a happier, healthier home for everyone. ❤️🐾

🦷🐾 Healthy teeth = a healthier pet!

Dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall well being. Dental problems can affect more than just the mouth, which is why regular dental checks are so important. Your veterinarian should check your pet’s teeth and gums at least once a year to catch potential problems early. Keep an eye out for:

• Bad breath
• Broken or loose teeth
• Discolored teeth or tartar buildup
• Drooling, difficulty chewing, or dropping food
• Decreased appetite or refusing to eat
• Pain around the mouth
• Bleeding or swelling
• Changes in behavior, including increased irritability

Sometimes our pets hide dental pain until the problem becomes more serious. If you notice a change in your pet’s eating habits, behavior, or mouth, it’s worth having them checked.

If your pet needs an exam don’t hesitate to give us a call and schedule your appointment ! 📅

September is National Food Safety Education Month!

We all know how much our pets love sharing our food, but not everything that is safe for us is safe for them. Some common foods can cause serious illness or even be toxic to our pets.

A few important reminders:
• Keep chocolate, grapes and raisins, onions, garlic, and xylitol-containing products away from pets.
• Avoid giving pets foods that are excessively fatty, salty, or seasoned.
• Store food and trash securely where curious pets can’t get into them.
• When in doubt, check with your veterinarian before sharing something from your plate.

Keeping our pets safe starts with knowing what they can and can’t eat!
