THLN celebrates key victories in the passage of HB 2731 and HB 2012, authored by Representative Muñoz and Representative Bell! These new laws allow certain counties (combined populations over four million) to BAN the sale of dogs and cats, commonly sold in parking lots or along roadsides in their counties.

These roadside sales often lead to impulse purchases, with buyers unaware that animals may be sick, poorly bred, or coming from unregulated sources. Too often, these animals are later surrendered to already overwhelmed municipal shelters, worsening Texas’ pet overpopulation crisis.

By stopping the roadside sales in these counties, the bans help protect animals from exploitation and promote more responsible, thoughtful pet adoption and purchasing decisions.

Going down memory lane... I loved Atlas. I visited him for nearly a year every working day, in the mornings or at lunchtime. We played ball or went for neighborhood walks. His parents were both in the military and had orders though and we had to part. Still miss that crazy dog. His parents sent me this cup from their new duty station. ❤️
