If they can’t walk and steer, they can’t trot and steer.
If they can’t balance at the trot, they aren’t ready to canter.
If they can’t go catch their own horse, groom it, tack it up and take responsibility for it, how are they supposed to lead that horse from the saddle?

Going faster does not equal getting better. Strapping your kid to a horse and sending them into the arena isn’t making them better, it’s setting them up to get hurt.

You might think watching your kid walk circles isn’t exciting. You might think they should be cantering, jumping “doing more.”

But sometimes they’re simply not ready.

And respectfully — that’s why you hired an instructor. Because knowing how and when to progress a rider is our job.

We aren’t holding your kid back. We’re building the foundation that keeps them safe and makes them GOOD.

2025 Hanoverian filly by Sempatico M out of Trimmed in Gray. Trimmed in Gray was Site Champion non-Hanoverian Mare. She competed dressage and did overfences before becoming a super producing mom.

Sempatico M was imported from Germany where he finished his testing for lifetime approval. Sempatico has completed both his 30 day test & 70 day test at Prussendorf finishing 5th out of 18, 3rd in dressage index and 8th in jumping index. Final score: 7.81 Also at the announcements of his scores Frank Bangert the head director of Prussendorf State Stud said "Sempatico is the best colored horse he has ever seen" and congratulated his breeder Mr. Michel on such a nice horse. In his 70 day testing, Sempatico finished 6th in dressage with a great score of 121.25 points! He placed 11th of all 30 stallions in this testing with a total score of 106.67.

Known as Beanie around the barn, this gorgeous girl is as sweet as they come. She’s a dream for both vets and farriers; as well as handled by kids of all ages daily and is turned out with a mixed herd. Registered and microchipped.

Would like to congratulate Fuse Equestrian’s newest USDF bronze medalist, Sienna Laughman!

Wonderful day at Dressage at Stone Tavern and super sweet surprise from the announcer after the ring steward found out this junior rider just got her last score towards her medal. So grateful for all the organizers and volunteers!

Train the horse you have today.

We spend so much time training toward the horse we hope to have in six months, two years, five years.

We have goals for what they’ll look like, how they’ll move, what level they’ll compete at, how strong they’ll become.

Having a vision for the future is important.

But especially with young horses, the horse you have today might be very different from the horse you had six weeks ago, or even six days ago.

They grow. They get stronger. They get tired. Their balance changes. Something that was easy last month might suddenly feel hard, and something you’ve struggled with for months might seemingly click overnight.

Sometimes we get so focused on developing the horse we know they could become that we start riding an imaginary finished version of them instead of the actual horse underneath us.

Training has to start with what that horse is capable of today.

Ask today’s questions, note today’s answers.

Then use that information to build tomorrow’s horse.
