🐾 Help Us Keep Saving Lives at the Santa Cruz Humane Society 🐾

Every day, we open our doors to animals who need safety, medical care, food, love, and a second chance. From abandoned puppies and neglected seniors to injured strays and nursing moms, the need never stops — and neither do the expenses that come with caring for them.

We are asking our community for help through monetary donations to keep our shelter running and continue saving lives.

💸 Our Monthly Expenses Include:

🐶 Animal food and formula: $300 ( most of the food is donated, but we do have to purchase for those on a special diet).

🩺 Veterinary care and emergency medical treatment: $2000

💉 Vaccines, medications, and deworming: $ 500

🧼 Cleaning supplies, laundry, and disinfectants, litter, toiletries, office supplies, etc. $ 2800

⚡ Utilities (electricity, water, internet, trash) $ 1,200

🏠 Insurance $1,400

☎️ Telephone & Internet : $320

🚗 Auto Expenses : $540

👩‍⚕️ Daily care for every animal in our shelter : $22,000

Total average monthly expenses : $31, 060.
This does not include any emergency medical care or any special medical care for animals that need to see a specialist.

These costs add up quickly each month, and we cannot do it alone. Every donation — no matter the size — helps provide comfort, healing, and hope to animals waiting for their forever homes.

❤️ If you would like to support the animals of Santa Cruz Humane Society, please consider donating or sharing this post with others to keep the shelter open.

Together, we can continue giving homeless animals the care and love they deserve. 🐾

💔 Meet Baby Girl 💔

Baby Girl is a 2 year old black Lab mix. She belonged to a local dentist that was diagnosed with cancer and was taken to hospice care. Baby Girl meant a lot to him and she loved him dearly.

Baby Girl is searching for a new forever home after the heartbreaking loss of her owner. This sweet girl is now looking for a second chance at love, comfort, and security.

She may be grieving, but her heart is still full of love to give. Baby Girl deserves a family who will cherish her, help her heal, and show her that brighter days are ahead. Losing her person has changed her world, but with the right home, she can find happiness again.

Please consider opening your heart and home to Baby Girl. Whether through adoption, sharing her story, or helping us find her perfect match, you can make a difference in her life.

🏡 Give Baby Girl the fresh start she deserves.
🐾 Help her find love again.

Did you know that in Mexico, PROPAEM ( Enviromental Protection Agency of Mexico) named Caramelo dogs as a cultural symbol of Mexico's canine identity?

The Caramelo breed is a tan colored mixed breed dog that is often seen in the streets of Mexico. This popular mutt breed was named as Mexico's representation breed in order to aim adoption of these magnificent dogs.

Ticky and Tia are a common Caramel dog and they are ready for adoption. They did not come in together, but they found a great friendship while in our shelter 💗.

Ticky came in as a female stray puppy and is now 4 months old and ready for a forever home.

Tia is also a female, she was a stray as well and she is 1.5 years old.

Come meet these Caramel dogs and you might fall in love with them 🥰.

This is Mike, he wa abandoned outside our shelter on December 2025. He was very scared and didn't know where to go, hearing all the dogs barking and unable to see 😔.

He was taken to Dr. Rojas and his ruptured eye was removed. Luckily he found a mate that we named DJ, she has been with him throught it all. They are best friends and he always goes to her for comfort 😊.

Mike is doing great now, ready for a home, preferably with DJ. He is 6 months old and ready for a forever home where he feels safe and loved 💗.

☀️ Help Our Shelter Stay Cool This Summer! 🐾

With temperatures rising, our furry residents are feeling the heat—and we need your help to keep them safe and comfortable. Many of our outdoor kennels don’t have enough protection from the sun, and we’re urgently in need of sunshades to provide relief.

Shade can make a huge difference in preventing overheating and keeping our dogs healthy while they wait for their forever homes. 💛

We’re asking our amazing community for sunshades. Below is the link to order from Amazon, we usually use the 10' x 20'. Any color is fine with us 😀.

Every contribution, big or small, helps us create a safer, cooler environment for these animals who rely on us every day.

If you’re able to donate or want more information, please reach out or stop by the shelter. Let’s come together to give these sweet animals the comfort they deserve! 🐶🐱

Bailey is our dog of the day! Bailey came to us on December of 2024, she was found as a stray covered in thorns, many bite marks and very hungry. She is estimated to be 1.5 years old, she still has the energy of a puppy and loves running around!

Bailey is dog selective, she prefers male dogs. She is very loving to humans, kids and loves belly rubs 🤭. She weighs 60 lbs and has been ready for a forever home more than a year ago.
