Nice day for painting! We believe that the big cast iron shed was actually the boiler from the Dodge County courthouse that was reconfigured to a corn drying shed in the 1920's. The lean-to shed was a shelter for young pigs on pasture. Both structures are still in use!

What's up? No treats? This fainting goat nanny reminds us how special they are. When they get startled and their adrenaline rises, their legs stiffen and causes them to fall over. They are completely conscious, but cannot move their legs until the adrenaline lowers. This breed was used as sacrifice animals for more desirable breeds in the field. If a predator presented itself and the herd runs, fainting goats would fall prey, allowing the desired herd to escape unharmed. People used them, also,as a novelty. Unfortunately, they get used to being startled and are less likely to react. When they are no longer 'funny', owners get rid of them. We love them all the same and appreciate their uniqueness!

Let's talk about Pepe today! He was confiscated by the Fremont police while living in a garage in town. As expected, he was a bit grumpy towards people and pretty beat up with cuts and missing feathers. After a few months, his true beauty shines through and says 'happy birthday' when he crows. Although he cannot be housed with other birds, he's made a few human friends and is happy scratching for bugs and greens!
