Lily was being evaluated for worsening clinical signs consistent with Cushing’s disease, including markedly increased water intake and urinary accidents. While her endocrine testing was pending, she developed an acute and unusual progression of neurologic signs, ultimately becoming unable to stand or walk.
Because advanced imaging is available in-house at Bellaire Animal Medical Center, Lily underwent CT evaluation the same day. Imaging revealed a large pituitary macroadenoma causing significant compression within the brain and explaining her rapidly progressive neurologic dysfunction.
This degree of neurologic involvement is a rare presentation and is not typical of most dogs with Cushing’s disease.
Unfortunately, the extent of Lily’s disease carried a grave prognosis and she has since passed away.
Although advanced diagnostics cannot always change the outcome, they can provide rapid answers and help guide difficult medical decisions. In Lily’s case, same-day CT imaging provided clarity, prevented prolonged uncertainty, and gave her family peace of mind in understanding what was happening.
We will always remember sweet Lily. She was deeply loved, and she will always be missed. ❤️
