Newville Halloween Parade — Sign Up!

We’re getting ready for the Newville Halloween Parade on Monday, October 26 at 6:30 PM, and this year Top Bar Farm’s theme is…

Ghosts of the American West

I’m starting a sign-up so I can get an idea of how many people plan to attend and make sure we can plan the float accordingly.

Parents, siblings, family, and friends are all invited to join us on the float!

For costumes, we’re looking for ghost or skeleton cowboys and cowgirls, along with anything else that fits our spooky American West theme. Feel free to get creative!

We will also be accepting candy donations at the farm. If you’d like to donate, you can bring candy along to your lesson this week.

If you plan to join us, please comment below with how many people will be attending with your group so I can start a head count.

I couldn’t wrap up our Makeover posts without giving a huge shoutout to our team of girls who came along with us this week!

One of the things I was most excited about with this trip was being able to give them all the opportunity to experience a national-level event and see so many different sides of the horse industry firsthand.

Throughout the week they helped Evelyn and Lincoln, volunteered for the Makeover itself, and even jumped in to help competitors they had never met with their freestyle routines. They worked when we needed them, but there was also plenty of time to watch, learn and experience everything the week had to offer.

One of the highlights was a trip to Keeneland, where they watched the Thoroughbreds train from the clubhouse and listened to a seminar from Keeneland’s head veterinarian about the health and safety of racehorses. They also got to stick around and watch a few live races.

They watched some incredible competitors across a variety of disciplines at the Makeover, visited the International Museum of the Horse at the Kentucky Horse Park, and got to experience a polo match and head onto the field to stomp the divots.

There is so much to learn in the horse world outside of your own barn and your own discipline, and I loved being able to give these girls the opportunity to see more of it. Hopefully they came home with a little more knowledge, some new inspiration and a whole lot of great memories.

What a week for Evelyn and Lincoln (jc: Dawson) at the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover!

These two finished 15th overall in Ranch Work, competing against adults and professionals from all across the country, and finished 1st in the Junior Division, making Evelyn the Junior Ranch Work Champion for 2026!

I am incredibly proud of what these two accomplished this week. They overcame a lot just to get here, and the amount of progress they made in such a short period of time preparing for the Makeover has been incredible to watch. They were challenged, they had some really big firsts, and Evelyn continued to ride through it all and help Lincoln find his confidence.

Finishing 15th overall at a national level is something to be incredibly proud of, but seeing a junior rider bring along an off-track Thoroughbred and be successful at this level makes it that much more special.

I love being able to advocate for this breed and show just how versatile Thoroughbreds can be after racing. Seeing a youth rider experience that firsthand is even better. This is only the beginning for Evelyn and Lincoln, and I cannot wait to see where the future takes them.

First ride of the Thoroughbred Makeover is in the books! 🤍

Evelyn and Lincoln (jc: Dawson) had a great ride this morning with some beautiful transitions, and Lincoln did such a good job keeping his cool for the most part in a pretty big atmosphere!

So proud of how Evelyn rode him and handled everything that came their way. These two have worked so hard to get here, and it’s pretty special getting to watch it all come together in Kentucky. Especially as a junior competing against so many professionals! We are still awaiting results of the horsemanship pattern.

Now we’re getting ready to switch gears for Ranch Trail this afternoon!

It’s almost Kentucky time!

Top Bar Farm will be away next week as we head to Lexington for the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover! We are incredibly excited to support Evelyn and Lincoln, along with the group of girls joining us for the week.

There will be no regular lessons next week, and Cycle 9 begins when we return. Cycle 9 invoices are being sent out today and must be paid by October 11th in order to hold your lesson spot. If you don’t see yours, please reach out!

Next week is technically our scheduled off week, but since we will also be closed the following week while we’re away at the Thoroughbred Makeover, I’m opening up optional lessons for anyone who doesn’t want to take two weeks off in a row!

If you’d like to ride, you may reserve your normal lesson time for next week. These lessons are not included in your package and will be charged at the regular private/drop-in rate of $70, due at the time of your lesson.

Lessons are optional and must be reserved ahead of time. Just send me a message or text to confirm that you’d like to keep your normal spot.

Please note: This does not apply to riders who have a makeup lesson to use. 🙂
