Happy National Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! ❤️💙

This week, Fairfield Equine celebrates our incredible equine veterinary technicians who dedicate their time and talent to caring for our equine patients. 🩺🐎

From the barn to the operating room, from emergency calls to recovery stalls, equine technicians are an essential part of the team. They are there for the victories, the challenges, the tough cases, and the moments that remind us exactly why we do what we do.

You may not see these individuals every day, and many work behind the scenes, but all are a vital part of our team day-in and day-out! Fairfield Equine extends a sincere thank you to all of our wonderful technicians!

Heading to a horse show this fall? We might see you there! 👋

Dr. Gaeta and Dr. Stacy will be providing veterinary coverage at some of the sport's premier competitions throughout the remainder of the season, including, Washington International, Desert Horse Park, Santa Anita, and more.

While these are the shows they'll be attending this fall, Fairfield Equine veterinarians provide care at horse shows throughout the year, supporting top riders and equine athletes across the country.

For over 30 years, Fairfield Equine has been trusted by the United States Equestrian Team at Olympic Games and international events around the globe. Fairfield Equine is looking for an experienced, highly motivated, energetic, and hardworking Equine Veterinary Technician to join our surgical team as a Surgeon Assistant & Anesthetist!
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced equine technician who enjoys surgery, anesthesia, emergency cases, and working closely with veterinarians in a fast-paced hospital environment.

🩺 Responsibilities
Perform anesthesia for elective and emergency equine surgeries
Prepare patients, including bloodwork, IVC placement, and pre-operative medications
Induce and maintain general anesthesia for a variety of patients and procedures
Maintain and stock anesthesia equipment and communicate equipment needs
Perform medical calculations and safely handle controlled substances
Assist surgeons with examinations, procedures, diagnostics, and surgical preparation
Maintain sterility and anticipate the needs of the surgeon
Provide safe patient handling, restraint, and preparation
Jog horses for lameness evaluations
Assist with ambulatory appointments, including driving, procedure setup, sterile procedures, jogging, and lunging
Assist with post-operative care, bandage changes, procedures, and radiographs
Support intern DVM anesthesia training
Assist other hospital departments as needed

🐎 Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of sport horse or equine experience required
Prior equine veterinary technician experience required
Prior anesthesia experience preferred
LVT/CVT/RVT preferred
Strong horse handling skills with a variety of breeds and temperaments
Comfortable jogging horses for lameness evaluations
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to lift 50+ lbs
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to emergency cases

⏰ Schedule & On-Call
Full-time, Monday–Friday
Anesthesia on-call responsibilities: approximately 7–15 days/month
Weekend on-call responsibilities as needed
Anesthesia on-call training provided

We’re looking for an organized, detail-oriented team player with equine experience to help coordinate the administrative side of our busy equine hospital.

Responsibilities include:
✔ Scheduling ambulatory, hospital, and imaging appointments
✔ Preparing estimates, contracts, and admission paperwork
✔ Obtaining histories and imaging from referring veterinarians
✔ Uploading imaging
✔ Assisting with deposits, billing, and AR
✔ Communicating upcoming hospital admissions and arrivals to the team
✔ Supporting veterinarians, technicians, clients, and referring practices
We’re looking for someone who:
✔ Must have equine experience
✔ Has strong organizational and communication skills
✔ Can multitask in a fast-paced environment
✔ Has excellent attention to detail
✔ Has veterinary or equine hospital experience
✔ Enjoys being part of a collaborative team
