I often get asked about the genetic markers for DCM1 and DCM2.

These genes are not a diagnosis. They are not predictive of whether a Doberman will develop DCM at any point in their life.

The best tool we have to monitor heart health?
Annual echocardiograms and Holter monitoring- not a cheek swab.

The next best tool?
Proven longevity and ancestral health. A pedigree full of dogs living well past 10 years tells us far more than isolated gene markers ever will.

The goal is clear: Breed Dobermans who live long, healthy lives - into double digits.

Princess Cinder is still growing up! She just had a heat so the next one is estimated to be in March! Before then we need to have another Holter and EKG done on her heart, her hips, elbows, eyes, and thyroid checked. Once done we will be confirming with a potential stud and we will hope for a successful breeding! Don’t forget to follow this page for updates and goings on here at Asketill Doberman Kennel!

To anyone looking to get into this breed there is a lot of good info in this video! Remember these dogs, no matter how they are bred need lots of exercise. I would never suggest these dogs for apparent living unless the owner is committed to 4-5 hours of exercise a day.

My dogs loved the treats we got from Doggie Dough Barkery! A friend brought them to me to try and we will for sure be getting more!
