Update: Amber Davidson-Carns

Amber has been up to no good and getting in trouble with all of the awesome progress the last few days!! Just kidding!!! 😉😆 pictures below…. The last few days the staff have been trialing her off ecmo, which means they have been clamping her sweep (oxygen) going to the ecmo machine and relying solely on herself to oxygenate her lungs. They’ve been keeping an eye on her blood oxygen levels and her Co2 has been trending down. She was clamped for 24 hours and today they decided to get rid of the ecmo machine! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 She’s still on oxygen but she has made great progress and I’m SO proud of her, beyond words!!!! She’s also finally able to eat!!!! (Full liquid diet) We also were able to get outside and receive some much needed sun and fresh air on Saturday when it was 86 degrees! I’m convinced that all of your thoughts and prayers have made an impact as well as the incredible, talented, amazing staff!!! Please continue to send your thoughts and prayers our way and please consider donating as well because we still have a long road ahead. Amber update..

Another positive day! Chest xray is slowly getting better but when you compare it to last week it shows great improvement. She got all of her chest tubes taken out (2 on each side) had her plasma exchange and eculizomab medication today. Scheduled to do at least two more plasma exchange (Wednesday and Friday) no changes to ventilator and still on ecmo. Still taking a low dose of diuretic. Labs are looking well/ trending down to normal range. Did some light physical therapy today, still didn’t want to over do. Amber update:
Amber had a pretty rough weekend....from her ecmo machine malfunctioning, having to switch it out, the new machine then doing a pause and causing her to go into a-fib, requiring sedation and being shocked back into rhythm. That has taken a toll on her and they have had to take a couple steps back! They also have found out today that last week's results for one of the rejection labs (epithelium) that got sent out to California got back and it was positive. So the plan is to give her plasma. The machine will hook right into the ecmo machine. She will have this done every other day for 5 treatments. Praying this can reverse the rejection and also no more darn hiccups!

Ambers ecmo machine started malfunctioning last night around 10:30. Either Amber threw a clot or the ecmo machine did. This started “chopping” her red blood cells up and causing lysis which isn’t good and started effecting her kidneys. They made the decision to switch her ecmo machines out. The procedure just completed and it went well however her stats dropped and now she’s solely relying on that machine. She was heavily sedated so very sleepy now. We will give her more updates when I get them!
