🐾💙 — SECOND TAKE! 💙🐾

Coco is back and looking for her ! 🏡🐶

This phenomenally fun lady is ready for a family who can match her energy! Coco is housebroken, crate trained, LOVES to play, and did well with other dogs in her previous foster home. She’s a big girl with a BIG personality and would love an active family who can keep her busy and give her plenty of room to stretch those legs! 💨🐾

Coco was recently adopted, but unfortunately, the home just wasn’t the right fit. She lived in an apartment with stairs that she just couldn’t quite figure out. Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right match—and we’re determined to help Coco find hers! ❤️

If you’re looking for a big, fun-loving dog and have a big yard for this big girl to enjoy, come meet Coco! We have a feeling she could be exactly who you’ve been looking for. 🥰

A HUGE thank-you to the Newport News Police Department for their continued partnership and for always supporting our PRAS pups! 👮‍♂️🐶💙

🐔 CHICKEN WING’S FIRST ExPAWdition! 🐾

Chicken Wing had an absolute blast on his first ExPAWdition today—and he was quite the gentleman everywhere he went! 🥰

His adventure started with a ride in the truck 🚙, which he handled like a pro. No barking, no fuss, and no trouble getting in or out!

From there, Chicken Wing visited PetSmart, Petco, Lowe’s, and Bass Pro Shops, where he soaked up all the attention and showed off his excellent manners. 🛍️ There were other dogs around, but Chicken Wing wasn’t bothered by them at all. 🐶

He also enjoyed a walking trail in Hampton 🌳, taking in all the sights and smells, before heading into a neighborhood stroll. Even when two dogs nearby were barking from their backyard, Chicken Wing simply sniffed around and kept on walking. 👃

And then came the little humans! 👧🧒 He met two young children who were gentle with him, and Chicken Wing was perfectly happy to receive their attention and cuddles. ❤️ He didn’t jump all over them and handled the interaction beautifully.

Perhaps the best part? He never once pulled or dragged his handler while walking! 🙌

Truck rides, stores, trails, barking dogs, new people, and little kids—and Chicken Wing took it all in stride. ⭐

Sounds like someone is ExPAWdition-ready! 🎉🐾

We’re so happy Chicken Wing got to get out, experience the world, and show everyone what a wonderful boy he is. We can’t wait to see where his next adventure takes him! 🐔❤️

Want to go on your own ExPAWdition?! Email us at [email protected] 🎉

but this one was too good not to share! 🐾

We’re kicking off today’s Tail Wagging Tuesday with the Newport News Police Department! 💙🐾

Last week, Miss Daisy got to spend some time with her friends at NNPD, and this girl absolutely SHINED! ✨

Daisy made her way to each and every person in the group, happily collecting all the love and affection she could get. And trust us—she loved every single ounce of it! ❤️

This sweet girl is truly a star. Daisy is an absolute LOVE, and she gets along with everyone she meets, making her the perfect pup to represent PRAS for our Tail Wagging Tuesday crew!

She may have been the star of last week’s outing, but we have another special pup waiting in the wings...

Stay tuned for Coco’s feature later today! 👀🐶

NEWSPAPER NEEDED!

Do you have a stack of old newspapers taking up space at home? We could put them to good use!

PRAS is currently in need of newspaper for our kennels. Newspaper is an important part of keeping our animal areas clean, dry, and comfortable, and we go through a LOT of it!

So before you toss that pile in the recycling bin, consider donating it to the shelter. Every bundle helps us keep our kennels clean and our animals comfortable while they wait for their forever homes.

Have newspapers to donate? Bring them by PRAS during our regular business hours (10-5 daily in the ReUnite lobby)!

And if you have friends, family, neighbors, or coworkers who still get the newspaper, send them our way, too. One person's recycling is another shelter pet's clean kennel!

Thank you for helping us care for the animals who are waiting for their next chapter!

Happy Labor Day from PRAS!

Today, we’re taking a moment to recognize the people who work hard every day to make a difference for animals in our community.

From our animal care and adoption teams to our fosters, volunteers, rescue partners, veterinarians, and supporters—you each play an important role in helping animals Rehome. ReUnite. ReEducate.

Shelter work doesn’t always fit neatly into a Monday–Friday schedule. There are early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, unexpected challenges, and plenty of hard work that happens behind the scenes. But there are also happy endings, wagging tails, purrs, adoptions, reunifications, and the satisfaction of knowing we made a difference.

To everyone who gives their time, talent, and energy to help animals in need: thank you.

We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Labor Day!

Foster Feature Friday: Frog

Frog’s story is a perfect reminder of just how much a foster home can change a shelter pet’s life. 🐸❤️

When Frog first arrived at the shelter as a stray, he was understandably very fearful. He was shut down and unsure of the world around him. But then he went into foster care, and everything changed. 🏡

With the time, patience, and comfort of his foster family, Frog has completely transformed into a different dog than the one who first walked through our doors.

Today, Frog loves everyone he meets! He is incredibly well-rounded, does wonderfully with other dogs, welcomes visitors into the home, and is both housebroken and crate trained. He has gone from a fearful pup to a confident, loving companion who is ready to take on his next adventure. 🐾

We are so grateful to Frog’s foster family for giving him the opportunity to decompress, learn that the world isn't so scary, and discover just how wonderful life can be outside of the shelter. ❤️

Now, Frog is ready for the final chapter of his journey: his forever home. 🏠

If you're looking for a sweet, loving young dog who has truly blossomed in foster care, Frog might be your guy!

And to all of our fosters: thank you for being the reason stories like Frog’s have happy endings. 🥹❤️

💚 Forever Family Fursday: Lite Brite 💚

Three years ago, one very lucky kitty named Lite Brite found her forever person. And judging by the update we just received from her mom, we’d say the feeling is VERY mutual. 🥹🐾

Her mom recently reached out to share:

"I hope you are doing well! 3 years ago I adopted Lite Brite and I just wanted to thank you guys for giving me the best kitty cat ever. I love her so much. I adopted her in college as an emotional support animal and it's been crazy to think back and reflect on how much she's helped me and how much we have been through together. Thank you guys so much for all you do and for giving me my best friend."

😭❤️

Lite Brite wasn’t just adopted three years ago—she became a best friend, a constant companion and a source of comfort through so many chapters of her mom’s life.

From college days to wherever life has taken them since, these two have grown together, supported each other and made a whole lot of memories along the way. And now, three years later, Lite Brite is clearly living her best life!

We absolutely LOVE getting updates like this. They remind us that every adoption is so much more than a pet leaving the shelter. It’s the beginning of a story, a friendship and a forever family. 🏡💚

Here’s to many more years of cuddles, adventures, emotional support and being the best kitty cat ever. 🐱💚

🎉 CLEAR THE SHELTERS 2026 — YOU DID IT! 🎉

Alright… we’ve kept you waiting long enough.

🥁🥁🥁 DRUMROLL, PLEASE! 🥁🥁🥁

During the 2026 Clear the Shelters campaign, 279 animals found their forever homes! 🏡❤️

And when we say all kinds of animals found families, we mean it!

🐱 183 cats
🐶 78 dogs
🐰 5 rabbits
🐹 5 guinea pigs
🐓 3 roosters
🐢 1 turtle
🐍 1 Ball Python
🐖 1 pig
🐟 1 fish
🐦 1 budgie

That’s 279 lives changed. 279 families made. 279 reasons to celebrate.

But we couldn’t have done it without YOU.

To every person who walked through our doors and chose to adopt: THANK YOU. You didn’t just take home a pet—you gave an animal the second chance they deserved.

To our incredible Clear the Shelters sponsors: THANK YOU for helping make adoptions possible and investing in the lives of shelter pets. Your generosity made a tremendous difference throughout the campaign.

And to everyone who shared posts, told a friend, donated, volunteered, fostered, stopped by to meet an animal or simply cheered us on from the sidelines—YOU were part of this, too. 💚

Clear the Shelters may be over, but the work continues. There are still animals waiting for their people, and we’ll keep working every day to help them find their way home.

From all of us at PRAS—and especially from the 279 animals who now have families of their own—THANK YOU! 🐾

279 adoptions. One incredible community. Countless happy tails.

Now THAT is something worth celebrating! 🎉💚

We'll be working on getting the pets sponsored by Meineke up soon! There are 97 of them, so bear with us 🎉
