Garrett was up first right out of the gate. He had some opportunities but couldn't make it come together, so we took a break for lunch & got Mason's buck by 2. There was still time in the day so we picked a buck & took off.
That was the story for the next 48 hours. I was questioning my life choices, my abilities & my sanity!!! We saw some outstanding antelope & made some promising stalks, only to head back to the trailer defeated.
We want everyone to go home with full hands & I was starting to lose hope. We were slowly heading out of the property & spotted 2 bucks up near the top of a ridge. With nothing to lose but time, we struck out for the final try.
As we closed the distance we noticed that one of the bucks was favoring a front leg. He turned out to be the wiser of the 2. The other one felt no danger & slowly let the lame buck wander away & us move in closer.
It was great. Things were coming together just like we needed them to & he got a shot at 41 yards & it went right where it needed to. I've said before these animals are stupid tough, so we did need to do some fancy footwork to keep him out of the bowl (a huge expanse that takes forever to get across & not the place you want a goat to slip into at the end of day 3). We did need to put another arrow in him just to keep things short for the animal. Perfect shot ended it at 42 yards ๐น & one more thing. I will never again say "that is a 4:00 on the last day buck." Lesson learned ๐ he was shot at 4:06 ๐
We've talked about trophies before. From unique to big to first antlope or even first animal ever, each buck is special in its own way. THIS buck has got to be the coolest cape ever!!! The wave across this guy's throat was so impressive!!! We have NEVER seen a throat on one like this!!! Each of these animals is marked differently, horns hook differently & may have kickers or ivory. Each one is truly beautiful & we just can't get enough of them!!!
