🐱 From stray to a fresh start! 💙

Everyone, meet Gizmo! This sweet kitty was once a stray and recently had a first visit with Dr. Kesler. We're so excited to welcome Gizmo to the Jonesville family!

Gizmo's story is a wonderful reminder that every pet deserves a chance at a loving home. But when it comes to adopting a pet, especially one with an unknown history, there are a few common misconceptions worth clearing up!

🐾 MYTH: You need to raise a pet from a baby to form a strong bond.
❤️ FACT: Adult pets can form incredibly strong relationships with their new families, too!

🐾 MYTH: A stray or shelter pet must have behavioral problems.
😻 FACT: Pets end up without homes for many reasons, including circumstances completely outside their control.

🐾 MYTH: If an adopted pet looks healthy, a veterinary visit can wait.
🩺 FACT: Some health concerns aren't immediately visible! An initial exam can help identify parasites, dental concerns, and other conditions that might otherwise go unnoticed.

🐾 MYTH: An adopted pet is automatically up to date on everything.
💉 FACT: Vaccination records, parasite prevention, spay/neuter status, and microchip information should all be reviewed. Pets with unknown histories may need additional testing or preventive care.

🐾 MYTH: Your new pet should feel comfortable right away.
🏡 FACT: Adjustment takes time! A quiet space, predictable routines, and patience can help your new companion settle in.

Every pet has a story, and every new beginning deserves a healthy start!

Have you welcomed a shelter pet or former stray into your family? We'd love to hear your adoption story in the comments!

🐱 A little cuteness with an important reminder! 💛

This cutie is helping us continue to spread awareness about Pet Obesity Awareness Month... but this time for our feline companions!

Cats have unique nutritional needs, and because they're experts at hiding discomfort, extra weight can sometimes go unnoticed.

Here's what cat parents should know!

🐈 Indoor cats need enrichment! Climbing trees, scratching posts, wand toys, and food puzzles encourage natural behaviors while keeping cats active.

🥣 Free-feeding can add up! Cats may return to their food bowls throughout the day. Measured meals help you keep track of how much they're actually eating.

👀 Fluffy doesn't always mean healthy! Your cat's Body Condition Score helps assess body fat beyond what the scale tells us.

Check out the WSAVA's Feline Body Condition Score Chart:https://wsava.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Body-Condition-Score-cat-updated-August-2020.pdf

🍽️ Cats shouldn't lose weight too quickly! Sudden or extreme calorie restriction can lead to serious liver problems, including hepatic lipidosis.

🩺 Every cat is different! Before changing your cat's diet or portions, talk with our veterinary team about a safe, individualized weight-management plan.

💛 Cat parents, we're curious! Is your feline friend a professional couch potato, a window-watching enthusiast, or a midnight zoomies champion? Tell us in the comments below!

11 Weeks Old and Already Stealing Hearts! 🧡

Meet Kinja! This adorable 11-week-old Vizsla stopped by for a first puppy visit and made a new best friend in Mackenzie! Judging by these photos, there was no shortage of love and attention. 🥰

With National Pet Obesity Awareness Day coming up on October 14, Kinja is helping us share an important reminder: Healthy habits start young!

🍽️ A few tips for growing puppies:

• Measure meals: Feed appropriate portions based on your puppy's age, size, and growth.

• Watch the treats: Those training rewards add up! Keep treats to no more than 10% of daily calories.

• Keep them moving: Encourage age-appropriate play and activity without overdoing it.

• Monitor their growth: Regular wellness visits help us track weight, growth, and body condition.

Maintaining a healthy weight from puppyhood can help reduce the risk of joint problems, diabetes, and other health concerns later in life.

Now, can we get some love for Kinja and Mackenzie? Just look at those sweet moments! 🥹

When a cat patient says, "I'm good right here." We listen. 😸

For some cats, a more comfortable veterinary visit means slowing down, tasty distractions, minimizing restraint, and meeting them exactly where they feel safest. This little cutie was perfectly content staying low on the exam table, so our team followed their lead.

That’s an important part of Fear Free feline care, and it can benefit more than your cat’s comfort. Stress can affect things like heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, and behavior, which can make it harder to get an accurate picture of how your cat is really doing.

By paying attention to body language and adjusting our approach to each individual cat, we can help reduce fear and create a better experience for everyone. ❤️

Their comfort. Their pace. Their care.

❤️ Help your puppy get comfortable with veterinary visits from the start

Welcome to the Jonesville family, Nova! We can’t wait to watch you grow. 🥰

Sunni and Emily are here to brighten your feed and share an important reminder: some of the best veterinary care happens before your pet is sick.

That's the power of Preventive Care!

Regular wellness visits help us get to know what’s normal for your pet and keep an eye on their health as they grow and age. These visits are an opportunity to:

🩺 Perform a nose-to-tail physical exam
💉 Review vaccines and parasite prevention
🦷 Check teeth, ears, skin, weight, and more
🥗 Discuss nutrition, behavior, and lifestyle
🔎 Look for subtle changes that may be easier to address when caught early

And because every pet is different, their care should be, too. From those first puppy and kitten visits through the senior years, our team works with you to recommend care based on your pet’s individual needs.

Oreo needed help, and we were able to see her that day.

When 12-week-old Oreo came to Jonesville as a new client for a same-day urgent care appointment, this little Yorkipoo was unable to stand or walk, had muscle tremors, and was extremely lethargic.

Bloodwork and X-rays didn’t reveal a clear cause, but our team suspected she may have ingested something toxic. We induced vomiting and provided IV fluids, medication, and supportive care while closely monitoring her.

And within just a few hours, Oreo was looking like a different puppy. 💜 Her tremors had stopped, she was walking again, and she was able to head home. By later that night, her family reported she was back to her active, normal self! 🥹

Oreo’s story is also an important reminder that pets don’t always give us much warning when something is wrong. If your pet suddenly seems weak, unusually tired, has tremors, is vomiting, or simply isn’t acting like themselves, prompt veterinary care matters.

We’re so glad we could be there for Oreo when she needed us. Welcome to the Jonesville family, sweet girl! 🐶💕

It’s Happy Cat Month, and Cinnamon stopped by for a wellness visit with Dr. Lerman, giving us the perfect excuse to talk about what helps our feline friends thrive. ❤️

A happy cat needs more than food and a cozy place to nap. Enrichment gives cats opportunities to express their natural behaviors and stay mentally and physically engaged.

🐾 Provide places to climb, scratch, hide, and perch
🪟 Set up a safe spot for watching the world outside
🧶 Rotate toys to keep playtime interesting
🍽️ Try food puzzles or treat hunts
❤️ Make time for interaction based on what your cat enjoys

And don’t forget the health side of happiness! Regular wellness visits can help us catch subtle changes that cats are especially good at hiding.

Give your favorite feline a little extra love this Happy Cat Month. Cinnamon certainly seems to approve. 🥰

Responsible Dog Ownership Month looks pretty cute on Po!

Meet Po, a 10-month-old Pittie mix who recently checked in with our team for his neuter. ❤️ Just look at that face!

Responsible dog ownership is made up of all the choices we make throughout our pets’ lives to help keep them happy, healthy, and safe, including:

🐾 Keeping up with preventive veterinary care
💉 Staying current on vaccines and parasite prevention
🏷️ Maintaining an ID tag and up-to-date microchip information
🐕 Providing exercise, enrichment, training, and socialization
❤️ Spaying or neutering when appropriate for your individual pet

Every dog is different, so decisions like when to spay or neuter should be discussed with our team based on factors such as age, breed, size, health, and lifestyle.

Way to go, Po! We know you'll be back to your playful self soon. 🥰

When 14-month-old Bud started vomiting, his family knew something wasn’t right and brought him in to be checked.

Cats can be especially good at hiding when they’re sick, which means the first signs of a problem may be easy to miss. And that’s where knowing your pet really matters.

Keep an eye out for changes like:

• Eating or drinking more or less
• Vomiting or changes in litter box habits
• Hiding or sleeping more than usual
• Less interest in playing or interacting
• Changes in grooming or behavior

For Bud, our team performed bloodwork and X-rays and provided fluid therapy and supportive care. We’re happy to report he’s doing great and feeling like himself again! ❤️

You know your pet best. If something seems different, even if the change feels small, it’s worth paying attention. Sometimes those subtle clues are the first sign that your pet needs a closer look.

Here’s to feeling better, Bud!
