It’s Animal Rights Awareness Week, and we want to celebrate a major recent victory for animals: Portland’s foie gras ban. 🎉🦆
Foie gras is produced through the force-feeding of ducks and geese, a practice that causes immense suffering and has long been condemned by animal advocates around the world. Portland’s decision to prohibit the sale of foie gras sends a powerful message that cruelty has no place on our plates.
This win is about more than one product - it’s proof that public awareness, advocacy, and compassion can create meaningful change. Every policy that recognizes animals as sentient beings deserving of protection helps move us toward a more humane future.
The work is endless and will continue, but we have to pause and celebrate this milestone thanks to the force of nature that are animal rights activists. 💚 This ban was made possible with the leadership of Pro-Animal Oregon , the continued pressure of RATS- Rage Against The Speciesism , and the entire animal activist community here in Portland and beyond. Change happens when we choose compassion, and Portland has shown what’s possible.
