A couple of weeks ago, I brought home my new little lady. I have been spending this time watching and learning how this little sprite thinks and moves. I am completely obsessed with little Róisín; she is so bright, watchful, and wonderfully bold. I can't wait to see where our lives take us ❤️ Welcome to the team, little lady.

This is a conversation I often have with clients. Anytime we allow opportunity for competition between dogs or even between a pet and its owner, the results can be challenging and scary.

Dogs are naturally competitive creatures. How strong that natural predilection is depends on each dog. I encourage people to avoid these behaviors and find other means of enrichment through play.

This is a great video outlining what can occur.

Summer is almost upon us, and with so many active, ball-loving dogs out there, I wanted to share a fun alternative to help keep your furry friends cool and entertained.

I'm using floating balls that are just the right size so your dogs cant easily grab them out of the water. They gently bob around, helping to cool their faces and keep them hydrated during playtime. I always want my dogs to feel like winners, so if they can't retrieve the ball within a minute or so, I give them a little help then toss it a couple of times before it is ploped back into the water.

Meet Moxie

A charming little lady with a lovable mix of French Bulldog and English Bulldog traits. Energetic and full of personality, Moxie arrived carrying some challenges in how she interacts with her world. She often uses her mouth to communicate, a habit stemming from not being taught bite inhibition. The mouthing behavior has not been due to true aggression; she simply treats her mouth like a thumb. Every day, she’s making great strides—learning to walk nicely on a leash, displaying polite behavior when entering and exiting her kennel, and grasping the idea of ‘placing.’ She’s also beginning to understand basic commands and is becoming more respectful around other dogs, though this progress takes time. While she can sometimes escalate and mouth quickly, she’s learning to calm down and de-escalate. Currently, she’s not suited for a home with children under 15 or with other dogs, but she’s making excellent progress on potty training when kept on a strict schedule. Moxie is a hilarious, affectionate, and playful girl who craves kindness and a best friend. Though she may need a little patience and love to become her best self, she truly deserves the world.

Moxie is currently in foster with K9 Solutions. Potential adopters are strongly encouraged to continue training through the transition of adoption to best set her up for success.

If you are interested in meeting Moxie, please submit an application. Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule a meet and greet appointment.

Moxie update, some of these videos are shortly after she came to stay with me. She is on a mini break for a couple days recovering from her spay but the progress she is making is remarkable. She is steadily progressing and getting closer to being ready to meet her forever person/persons.

Meet Moxie, a charming little dog with a adorable mix of French and English Bulldog traits. Recently taken in by the Newberg Animal Shelter, Moxie is bursting with energy and personality. She’s a spirited girl who’s been learning how to interact kindly with the world around her. Though she used to communicate through grabbing and niping, it wasn't out of aggression — she just needed to learn bite inhibition. Now, she’s steadily making progress: she walks beautifully on a leash most of the time, greets new people fairly politely, and is starting to grasp the idea of 'place.' Moxie is also exploring basic commands and becoming more comfortable around other dogs. With her playful, loving nature and a heart full of kindness and love, she’s eager to find a best friend who will cherish her. Stay tuned to see her wonderful progress as she gets closer to finding her forever home.

If you have ever considered donating to help animals please consider the Newberg Animal Shelter. All of your donations go to assist in helping with the overwhelming needs of every animal that enters. Some of the things that it covers: veterinary care (vaccinations, spay/neutering, other surgerys, antibiotics), food, toys and other enrichment opportunities.
