Our fourth and final intake last night was this little girl.
She almost never made it to us.
In fact, our transporter had already started heading back when the shelter sent one last photo โ a tiny Pitbull puppy curled up in a box, her eyes barely open, her body tucked in like she had already given up.
We couldnโt leave her behind.
Pitbulls are known for their strength, resilience, and unbreakable loyalty. But this little girlโฆ she had nothing left in the tank.
When she arrived, our hearts sank.
She weighs only 1.5 pounds โ far too small for a Pitbull her age. But when we checked her mouth, we saw adult incisors and lower canines already coming in, meaning sheโs likely around 4 to 5 months old.
A Pitbull puppy should be playful, strong, and full of life.
Instead, she was heartbreakingly fragile.
Her ribs were clearly visible. Her tiny body was weak and exhausted. Tests showed she is severely emaciated, fighting an upper respiratory infection, and her liver appears enlarged. Some of her bloodwork points to possible liver complications. Even more devastating โ her stomach was completely empty on X-ray and ultrasound.
No food. No energy. Just a tiny soul holding on.
But thenโฆ something shifted.
Every time we gently placed her back down on the soft towels, she cried out โ loud and determined. For such a small Pitbull, she has a voice that refuses to be ignored.
And to us, that cry meant everything.
It meant sheโs still fighting.
So now sheโs wrapped in warm blankets, finally resting, finally safe โ receiving fluids, nourishment, and constant care around the clock.
We will fight for her as long as she keeps fighting.
Because even the toughest breeds need someone to believe in them when theyโre at their weakest.
And this little Pitbull girl?
She deserves that chance.
Because every fighter deserves someone in their corner.
