What do you get … when you cross a Shagya-Arabian with any other breed?

Hopefully, a wonderful foal with many of the attributes you were aiming for 🦄

This breeding result is not a “Shagya” (Shagya-Arabian).

Arabian x Shagya-Arabian is the only cross that potentially can be a “Shagya”.

Let’s avoid calling “crossbred” horses “Shagyas” as in “Shagya-Arabians” unless they are 🙂

Congrats to Theo the Wonder Horse (who is sired by a Shagya-Arabian) and his owner/rider Rachel M on their accomplishments as noted in the May 2026 Endurance News.

Theo and the previously mentioned mare, H Ellen’s Lela, are both descendants of the imported Shagya-Arabian mare *52 Gazal II-6 (Babolna, Hungary).

Best of luck to all the ShA bred horses competing in AERC Endurance and Limited Distance this season.

See you on the trail :-)

Great example of what one can produce when selectively crossing Arabian x Shagya-Arabian.

Best of luck to her and her connections on qualifying for the World Cup.

Shagya-Arabians are few in number in the USA but check out these endurance horses and their notable achievements as published in April’s AERC’s 2026 Award Standings:

National Limited Distance Best Condition Award:

#1. Marigold by Bayram (*Oman x *Biala) owned by Valery Kanavy.

National Best Condition Award:

#1. Rhett OKS by *KS Rubin (Paris x Rasga) owned by Kathy Voyer.

Even the sole Hungarian Warmblood in the rankings, the mare H Ellen’s Lela, traces back to the imported Shagya-Arabian mare, *52 Gazal II-6 (bred by Babolna). This mare is 1st in the AERC’s Regional Points Championship and Regional Mileage Championship (Mountain Region) and 4th on the National Mileage Championship Sr. division.

There are 20 +/- Approved Shagya-Arabian stallions currently available for breeding here in North America…

Of those, I believe Bayram, *Dante LCR, *KS Rubin and Under Milkwood have get that are actively competing in limited distance and endurance here in USA. Let me know if there are any others 🙂

Breed your mare to a Shagya-Arabian.

Enjoy the Ride.

A few years ago I read an article about how they were using a Shagya-Arabian stallion on native mares to produce horses for the armed services in Columbia. I believe the stallion was KS Tradition/KS Tribute but was never able to get a copy of the article. Would be interesting to get an update on how the foals matured and figure out if it was actually him, etc.
