He put himself between the fugitive and the officers.
The fugitive shot him in the ear and the paw.
A month later — they put a medal around his neck.
He still had the toy in his mouth.
K-9 Jack served with the Weatherford Police Department in Texas.
During a pursuit — he selflessly positioned himself between a dangerous fugitive and the officers.
The fugitive's attention — and gunfire — went to Jack.
Jack was wounded in the ear and paw.
The officers were safe.
At the city council meeting in January 2024 — Jack received the Purple Heart Medal of Honor.
Assistant City Manager Lance Arnold said:
"On that evening, Jack very selflessly, and with bravery and courage, put himself between the fugitive and the officers. He drew the fugitive's attention — and with that, gunfire — and was wounded in the ear and paw in the course of his duties."
The crowd erupted in applause and got to their feet when he was called to the front.
Jack was calmly waiting — chomping on a toy.
He did not drop the toy when they placed the medal around his neck.
He also received a gift basket stuffed with treats, chew toys, and sq**rt cheese.
The whole room laughed and cried at the same time.
Because Jack was Jack.
He took a bullet for his officers.
Then he stood there with his toy
while they put a medal on him.
That's Jack.
That's exactly Jack.

“After 14 Years… Sergeant Dave Had to Say Goodbye” 🐾🇺🇸
Sergeant Dave stood there… motionless.
Not as an officer today — but as a broken partner.
Inside the coffin lay K9 Jaguar.
Not just a dog… not just a partner…
his best friend for 14 years.
They had been through everything together.
Late-night patrols… dangerous calls… moments where Jaguar saved lives — including Dave’s.
But today… there were no sirens.
No commands.
No barking.
Just silence.
Dave gently placed his hand on Jaguar one last time…
The same hand that had guided him, trained him, trusted him… every single day.
Witnesses say Dave whispered something softly —
No one heard it… but everyone felt it.
Maybe it was:
“Good boy… you did your job.”
For 14 years, K9 Jaguar served with loyalty, courage, and a heart bigger than words.
But to Dave… he was family.
And losing him?
That’s a pain no training prepares you for.
As the officers stood in honor… saluting…
Dave didn’t move.
Because in that moment —
He wasn’t ready to let go.

Four days after his birthday.
He was four years old.
K-9 Spike was a Belgian Malinois — a two-year veteran with the Burbank Police Department.
He had just become certified as a narcotics dog.
On the night of November 23, 2025 — a traffic stop near the 5 Freeway on Buena Vista Street.
The suspect ran. Spike and his handler pursued.
The suspect fired multiple rounds.
At least one bullet struck Spike.
The suspect was shot and killed by police after exchanging fire.
Spike was rushed to an emergency veterinary facility.
He did not survive.
Lieutenant Derek Green said:
"This is a tough one. This is no different than losing a police officer."
Then he said:
"The handler is upset.
I was with him for several hours last night at the hospital.
It's a double loss for him.
This was his partner.
But it was also his dog at home."
The Burbank Police Department posted:
"Your mission is complete, hero.
Rest in heaven,
enjoy endless treats
and all the bites your brave heart desires."
He was four years old.
Four days past his birthday.

I was at this memorial and just had to capture this powerful moment.

This soldier was paying tribute to his best friend and partner who served alongside him.

Watching him get out of his wheelchair to place his hand next to his K9's paw print absolutely broke my heart. 💔

You can just feel the incredible bond they shared. A love that will never fade. 🙏

A final, heartbreaking goodbye to a true hero. 🕊️

It was the hardest day of our lives, saying goodbye to a hero.

Then, his loyal K9 partner broke away and ran right to his newborn baby.

He nudged the blanket and we all saw it... his dad's dog tag. 😭

It felt like he was letting his family know a part of him was still here to protect them.

This moment just completely broke me. A love that never dies. ❤️🐾
