It’s a great idea to raise baby birds with the harness! Harness is a wonderful tool for safe outside walks. African Greys in particular need a lot of sunlight to get Vitamin D and absorb calcium. Calcium deficiencies in African Greys are common. It’s important to be gentle when introducing birds to a harness.

I love feeding freeze dried to my birds whenever I can. I have been loving products, and my birds have been too! They have been getting it every night since my original post!

I mix it in with food that I dehydrate to increase diversity and give more verity. I dehydrate the vegetables myself. Commercial dehydrated products may be heated at higher temperatures which can take away some nutrients. It’s not that big of a deal, but I want to try to give my birds as many nutrients as possible. I dehydrate at 110 degrees. This still considers the dried product raw.

Sure, some nutrients will always be lost no matter the process of preserving. Freeze dried looses vitamins too! But choosing to feed as close to raw as possible when it comes to dried food is very helpful! I know I feel great knowing my birds have access to quality fresh foods all the time without stressing about food spoiling!

I give this food item along with my birds pellets and dried herbs and spices. They have access to this all day long, but I feed the correct amount per bird that they usually end up eating it all! I feed my birds anywhere from 10-15% of their body weight per day (that means ALL foods including fresh, pellets, nuts, seeds, etc.). This is a good place to start if your curious on how much should you be feeding your bird. As always, check with your vet before decreasing food amount
