Cora started off at 3 minutes of being alone before she would start scratching the door & whimpering. It didn’t happen overnight. But now here we are with longer time & quality time alone. We went at Cora’s pace, collected the data, figured out what we can do to set Cora up for success. We are well on our way to achieving our goals . DM me if you would like to both be relaxed when you’re out of the home!

I know. There are no dogs nor talk of behavior in this post, but I can’t stress enough that I think trainers should be students, especially in an area totally unrelated to dogs. It reminds us what it’s like to not know how to do something, allows us to make mistakes, shifts perspectives, builds community & shows that you are much more than a dog trainer. We live in a world where our value is linked to how productive we are & when our job is so much of our identity, it can be a really hard world to live in. Yes, you are a wonderful dog trainer, but you also contain multitudes!

Women have historically had to prove themselves & work so much harder & this industry is no different. Of course there are some incredible & kind male dog trainers out there who I love & respect. But I bet they don’t have to prove themselves nearly as much. Please support the gals, cis, trans, & of color. We care and we are tired.

When we watch a reassessment there is truly nothing more thrilling than a dog deciding to lay down and sleep! and I were on the edge of our seats as Wally rocked his 4 week reassessment! We started our first week with a 3 minute duration and built up to 48 minutes while celebrating every small win along the way & will continue to do so as we work towards our goals. If you have a dog with separation anxiety, I can help! Shoot me a DM and we can get you started on your very exciting.boring journey!

Just a Pom & a pittie in the city! Dogs of different sizes can make the best of friends! Faye & Adam are both super friendly dogs, but their size & play styles mean that we have to be proactive to set them up for success.

How do we do it?
1. Understand your dogs’ needs & play styles & make sure the other dogs’ person knows theirs.
2. Start off with lots of space on nice long leashes, which gives both dogs the opportunities to decide whether they want to play or need some space.
3. Monitor & manage! The bigger dog may want to play, but can overwhelm the smaller & the smaller dog may want to play, but take on more than they can handle. You may need to step in & maven the dogs from themselves even if they’re both being playful.
4. Take it slow. These videos were not all taken the same day. But look at the adorable end result!

P.S. Check out Adam & Marie Antoinette in The Queen of Versailles on Broadway!

Happy ! Today we spent a little extra time off leash in Central Park & had a blast! When Faye came into the shelter & was pulled by she had a broken femur. Their medical team helped her heal with a cast and crate rest for 2.5 months. So when we get to see her run & play, it is celebrated! We are so grateful to have fostered & adopted this magical girl. 🧚🏼‍♂️

Stay cool like this summer! Here are some tips for introducing your pup to pool life.

1. Remember to not simply throw your dog into the pool & see what happens!
2. Take it SLOW, rewarding and reinforcing any movement toward the pool.
3. Let your dog go in on their own without any pressure.
4. Use treats, praise, or toys to positively reinforce any time your dog decides to move towards the water.
5. Be ready in case your dog gets too brave too fast. I love Crouton just hanging out on the first step, getting comfortable.

Keep it safe, fun, cool and as always, short and sweet to start! Not every dog is going to like a pool & that’s okay too. 😎
