How can I say "sorry I've been away" without feeling stupid? There is no way, and for anyone that has looked out for my posts, for me to apologize, but I'm sorry. I have four dogs, as you guys all know, and the past five months have been months that are abundant in vet visits. I go to a vet in Milford, CT and I post about my vet visits all the time. I have lots and lots more to tell you all, about what I've known about vets for so many years, and what I've been taught about about vets in the past eight years. And I'm happy to share! Going forward I'm going to be on FB and this page much more. Ask me anything you want, I'm going to ask you all, i.e., Sadie Mae, my beloved foxhound mix, she has cushing's disease, what's the best kibble for her? And next question is, has anyone else tried Dr. Harvey's dog food? xoxox Thanks for everyone and anyone that's looked in on my page, I'll be more thorough going forward!

It's been a long time since I've posted. Since January, one dog (my little Mini Schnauzer) has had two bad cases of IBS, Sadie (English Coonhound mix) got diagnosed with Cushing's Disease, Winnie had colitis as did Carl, and now we think everyone is stabilized. It was long, expensive, and worrisome. I have learned a lot, though. And the most important thing I've learned is that what dogs eat is key. It affects everything in their body(ies).

I have recently switched my Mini Schnauzer to Dr. Harvey's Miracle Dog Food. It's a miracle, alright. And Sadie, she's starting on Dr. Harvey's Paradigm. She's also now on meds for the rest of her life for Cushing's disease, there is no reversing it, but we can work to make sure the effects are as minimal as possible.

Carl is still on his Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Dry Dog Food. I love hearing from people what has worked for their dogs, please share your thoughts and your helpful information on anything possible, that's what this page is all about!

Thoughts? Tips? Please write!

Dogs and their Kidneys. This is a long story but an important one. And it's because of me and my love of my dogs and all dogs. I hope this can help someone. Being told in November that my lab, Carl, his kidney levels were slightly off. And being told to "keep an eye on this" is interesting to me. And "keeping an eye on" my dogs kidneys is not going to happen, I go into preventative mode, protective mode and "I'll do everything possible to make sure my dogs are safe before it's unsafe" mode. However, when my beloved Sadie Mae, her levels came back a little bit off and then her having to go back for more tests, and then being told "only other thing you can do is get her an ultrasound" means I bring her for an ultrasound and then I find ways to make any kidney issues for both Carl and Sadie Mae, disappear. I'm going to make sure that they are both well and this kidney thing scares me. Kidney disease is so prevalent nowadays. But not taking action immediately is not my way. It's like saying to a person "you have the start of kidney disease, let's keep an eye on it." Not going to happen if it's my family member or a friend of mine. I am going to work to get it fixed BEFORE it gets worse.

So, here's my thinking, which may show some of my paranoia about keeping my dogs healthy. I am going to find a way to prevent and treat any kidney issues, before they are an issue. Make sense? Not really but I'm sure you all understand what I'm saying. Who has had a dog with a kidney issue? And what steps did you take?

Two days ago I found this website, and I called them and they couldn't have been kinder or more intelligent about dogs and their kidneys. I was on the phone with them and asked all the right questions about all the numbers I'd gotten back from Carl's three urine tests, and his blood tests, which came back close to normal. I'll get into this question more, later on. Why would and how could both my dogs, Sadie and Carl, both have results coming back six weeks apart, on the tests on their kidneys?

And I have heard and seen that nutrition is key for dogs. I talked to a vet yesterday that said she doesn't like kibble for dogs. But we're talking lots of $$ here, to buy fresh and human grade dog food. I figure I could lose a few pounds, I'd prefer my dogs are healthy and I skip some meals, than not taking these preventative measures. So have a look below, would love some opinions, 'pm me if you have any experience with this, and please post what you feed your dog, and opinions of what your thoughts are on fresh human grade dog food. I'm liking the company below though, their customer service is out of the world and their ability and willingness to ask the right questions is so great! I've ordered and although I hate to start my dogs on new food again (it was suggested to me in December to switch Carl to Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Dry Dog Food), I hate to switch my dogs, it's a big deal for their digestion to be switched, but have a look below, I'm using this dog food. Thoughts, opinions, and does anyone have any experience with this below dog food? The staff is so great, the customer service! And the reviews too! I am going to do everything possible to keep my dogs, all four, safe and with healthy kidneys.

Roundworm. This is Carl, by the way. How? Now I have to call Merck Animal Health USA. It's possible, folks. And if you don't give your dogs monthly preventatives at all, then good luck. Anyone who reads my posts knows I'm vigilant about my dogs' and their good health. Last week was test results for Carl (his kidneys levels were a tiny bit off) and Winnie throwing up and had diarrhea. So Winnie diagnosed with Colitis, and she's taking meds to clear this up. No sleep till Brooklyn because of her having to go out all night(s) while not feeling well.

And for Carl, I KNEW he wasn't himself, I mean I'm outside with them every time they go out, I know my dogs. And my dogs eat Dr. Tim's Pet Food, and I went to Dr. Tim, told him what's happening and he told me for Carl, to do the SDMA test for his kidneys. Best advice I've gotten for my dogs in a long time. They found the Roundworm and also Ecoli. Now if I hadn't been on top of what my dogs are looking like and feeling like, we'd not have found out. P.S.: Thank you Dr. Tim! And my dogs love your food!

I am going to type something that I believe with all my heart, yet may offend some people. Please do NOT get a pet, any kind of pet, if you can't afford the costs that come with owning a pet. Please, just don't do it. If your dog wakes up and can't use his hind legs, you have to go to a Vet, and it's your job, as a dog owner, to keep that pet as pain free and as healthy as possible. Seriously, just don't take a dog in if you can't afford it. I'm sorry but not sorry to say this. Love goes a long way, but when a pet needs medical treatment, money is a necessity.
