🩺🐾 Pet CPR Day – April 22nd 🐾🩺
Would you know what to do in a pet emergency?

Every second counts when a cat experiences cardiac or respiratory arrest. April 22nd is Pet CPR Day, a reminder of how vital it is to be prepared with life-saving skills.

💡 What is Pet CPR?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for pets involves chest compressions and rescue breathing to help restore circulation and breathing in emergencies. It's a critical skill that can buy precious time until veterinary care is available.

🎯 On April 22nd, we encourage all pet parents, veterinary professionals, and animal lovers to:
- Learn or refresh pet CPR and first aid skills
- Take a certified pet CPR class (in person or online)
- Share resources to spread awareness in your community

Being prepared can make all the difference. 🐱

Did you know there are also courses available online for pet owners to become certified in CPR. Click the link below. https://hubs.la/Q04cXtcX0

Six dogs were trained over a 6-month period to distinguish between saliva samples from healthy dogs and those with malignant tumors.

Following training, the dogs were able to accurately identify cancer samples, achieving:

Sensitivity: 90%
Specificity: 98%
Positive & negative predictive values: 95%

Tumor types included lymphoma, mast cell tumor, osteosarcoma, melanoma, soft tissue sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and transitional/urothelial cell carcinoma.

Current tests in dogs often detect cancer only once it’s already advanced. These findings suggest that cancer may release scent signals that dogs can pick up—opening the door to a simple, non-invasive way to screen for disease.

Although these findings provide proof of concept for scent detection of canine neoplasia, this remains a preliminary study. Larger-scale studies are needed to better understand performance across tumor types and real-world clinical settings.

There are many reasons you may need to change your pet’s food. Your pet may be entering a new life stage, managing a health concern, or starting a diet recommended by your veterinarian. Whatever the reason, it’s important to make the switch gradually. A sudden change can upset your pet’s stomach and cause vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite.

Follow our 10-day Pet Food Transition Guide to help your pet adjust comfortably. If you notice any signs of digestive upset, slow down the transition and contact your veterinarian for guidance.
