:) Conventional dog wisdom used to discourage smiling at your dog, assuming that dog interpret human smiles as bared teeth or a snarl. Lately, there has been quite a bit of evidence saying the opposite. Personally, I have found that most socialized pet dogs respond positively to a smile. :)
