The power of the therapy dog. As many of you may know me, Kim, a long time employee at Rivergate . You may have noticed my absence due to my son Avery who has been battling leukemia for the last 17 months. Avery spent 6 months living at Mt Sinai hospital here in the city. During this time he spent many days isolated in his hospital room. With the love & care of the amazing child life specialist Avery was allowed visits by the on staff therapy dogs. Icee & Summer would come and comfort Avery on the hard days & even assist him during his physical therapy sessions. Some days it would be the only thing that would make Avery smile. These therapy dogs became part of Avery’s treatment & were crucial to his mental health. We are forever grateful to for always brightening Avery’s days during the darkest of times. I’m happy to report Avery is doing well & currently home with us while he continues chemotherapy treatments. I’m hoping to be back to Rivergate on a limited basis very soon! 💜💜
