There is a place beside my bed...
Where your breathing used to be.
Not loud.
Not demanding.
Just that soft, steady rhythm that somehow made the whole room feel safe.
I never realized how comforting it was until the night it wasn't there.
Now, when darkness settles over the house, the silence feels different.
It stretches across the room like an empty space no one else can fill.
Sometimes I still wake in the middle of the night.
For one sleepy moment, I don't remember.
I instinctively reach my hand toward the floor beside me...
Expecting to feel the warmth of your fur.
Expecting to hear that tiny sigh you always made before falling back asleep.
Instead...
My fingers find only quiet.
And somehow, quiet can be the heaviest thing in the world.
You were never just sleeping beside me.
You were watching over me.
Even in your dreams, I think you knew where I was.
If I moved, you moved.
If I cried, you somehow always knew.
You didn't need words to ask if I was okay.
You simply stayed close.
That was your way of loving me.
I miss the little sounds no one else would notice.
The gentle rustle as you turned over.
The soft snore that always made me smile.
The sleepy yawn before sunrise.
The peaceful breathing that reminded me I wasn't alone.
Those sounds became part of my heartbeat.
Now the nights feel longer.
The moonlight still falls across the floor where your bed used to be.
Your blanket is folded neatly nearby.
Your collar catches the faint glow from the window.
Everything is where it belongs...
Except you.
But maybe that's not completely true.
Because love has a way of staying where the body cannot.
Sometimes, just before I fall asleep, I feel an unexpected peace settle over the room.
The kind of peace that cannot be explained.
I close my eyes...
And I imagine you.
Running through endless meadows beyond the Rainbow Bridge.
Your lungs filled with fresh air.
Your body light and strong again.
Then, when you're tired from chasing butterflies and racing through the tall grass...
You lie beneath a sky full of stars.
You close your eyes.
And somewhere, carried on a breeze only the heart can hear...
Your breathing reaches mine again.
Not through my ears.
But through my soul.
So if one night I smile through my tears...
It's because I know the silence isn't empty.
It's simply holding the space where your love still rests.
And one beautiful night...
When my own journey is over...
I'll lie beside you again.
I'll close my eyes.
And the first sound I'll fall asleep to...
Will be your peaceful breathing.
Just like it always was.
Just like it was always meant to be. ππΎ
