How many litter boxes do you have at home for your cats? 👀
Because I have a feeling a lot of cat owners are about to start a war in the comments 😂
You've probably heard the famous rule:
🐾 1 cat = 2 litter boxes
🐾 2 cats = 3 litter boxes
🐾 3 cats = 4 litter boxes
Basically...
Number of cats + 1 extra box.
Some cat owners swear by this rule.
Others have 5 cats sharing 2 litter boxes, and somehow everybody is living peacefully.
So who's right?
Honestly... the cats decide.
One thing I've noticed over the years is that many litter box "behavior problems" aren't behavior problems at all.
They're often setup problems.
Here are a few things that make a bigger difference than people realize:
🐾 Location matters more than the litter box itself
• Cats like privacy
• They don't want to p**p next to noisy washing machines
• They don't want people walking past them every 10 seconds
🐾 Scoop more often than you think
• Some cats will happily use a slightly dirty box
• Some cats act like you've committed a crime if there's one p**p inside 😭
🐾 Bigger is usually better
• Many litter boxes sold in stores are surprisingly small
• Some cats barely have room to turn around
Now for the controversial part... 🔥
🐾 Covered litter boxes
• Some owners love them because they hide smells
• Some cats hate them because odors get trapped inside
🐾 Automatic litter boxes
• Some cats adapt instantly
• Some cats look at it once and decide it's possessed
🐾 Scented litter
• Humans think it smells nice
• Some cats completely disagree
And here's my hottest take...
🐾 Most cats care more about cleanliness than litter brand
I've seen cats happily use cheap litter that's cleaned daily.
I've also seen cats boycott expensive litter because the box wasn't maintained.
So here's my question...
How many cats do you have, and how many litter boxes are in your house right now?
And are you following the "1 cat + 1 extra box" rule... or living dangerously? 😂👇
