for stopping and trying to help SARGE… he deserved to live .. heartless people are ignoring wildlife and recklessly move through the world with little or no regard….
I am so sorry sweet SARGE that this is how you were left … and so thankful and grateful for the kind people who stopped… and tried to help you and stayed by you lovingly til the end….
Sleep In Peace SARGE are so beautiful and amazing and one of the longest inhabitants on earth….
🐢 They Didn’t Have to Stop… But They Did 🐢
Somewhere along a quiet road in Rensselaer County, an old turtle lay injured after being struck by a car.
Most drivers would have kept going.
But Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple stopped.
He saw a life struggling on the side of the road and decided it mattered.
The turtle, later named “Sarge,” was carefully picked up and rushed to Berkshire County Turtle Rescue in Massachusetts. The rescuers believed he had spent nearly 70 years surviving this world crossing seasons, storms, and roads long before most of us were even born.
They fought to save him.
Sadly, Sarge’s injuries were simply too severe.
And though his story did not end with a miracle, it ended with something many living creatures never receive in their final moments:
Compassion.
People cared enough to stop.
People cared enough to try.
People cared enough to believe that even the smallest, quietest life deserved kindness.
In a world that can sometimes feel cold and rushed, moments like this matter more than we realize.
Rest peacefully, Sarge.
You were seen.
You were valued.
And you reminded people that humanity still exists in the hearts of strangers. 🐢
