OG Anunoby is using his championship spotlight to help some local cats get noticed.

Fresh off helping lead the New York Knicks to an NBA title, Anunoby has partnered with Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), Royal Canin, and VCA Animal Hospitals to spotlight five adoptable shelter cats. The campaign, called "OG's Starting Five," highlights cats currently waiting for homes in New York City's largest shelter system.

To encourage adoptions, the campaign is offering a year of free cat food and veterinary care for adopters. Royal Canin is also donating $300,000 worth of pet food to animal shelters across the U.S. Animal advocates hope the effort will help more shelter cats find loving families.

You can visit Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) for more adoptable animals here: https://www.nycacc.org/.

Great info:

Grumpy face, a li’l scruffy, standing or hopping and fully feathered? Yup, that’s a fledgling. Unless they’re injured or in danger, you can usually let them be.

A fledgling is a bird who’s just left the nest. They don’t fly much at first, but this is normal. If they can stand or hop and are covered in feathers, they’re likely fine. Their parents are usually nearby foraging for food to feed them. If you’re not sure, wait and watch from a distance to see if the parents show up.

If a fledgling is in a road or other dangerous spot, it’s OK to move them to a safer place nearby but only a few feet away! A fledgling is still dependent on their parents, and the parents must be able to find them.

Every summer, we admit many dozens of healthy fledglings who were rescued by mistake. Their rescuers certainly meant well, but the consequences for that bird (not being raised for their parents) and for us (many more birds in care unnecessarily) are steep. Whenever possible, we ask the rescuers to return them where they found them and wait to see if the parents return.

**Note: Pigeons are the exception. Pigeons stay in the nest a long 4 weeks and look almost like adults when they fledge. Usually if a pigeon looks too young to be out of the nest (short wings, short tail, fuzzy head), they are.**

If you’re not sure, send us a photo or contact your local wildlife rehabber.

Your donations feed a lot of babies and fledglings this time of year! Please consider helping: 🔗 bit.ly/wbfdonate

Mimosa is too cute for words. Mimosa is the kind of cat who blooms quietly with patience and kindness. She’s a very reserved girl, taking her time to understand new places and new people. But once she feels safe, you’ll start to see her soft personality peek through.
Mimosa loves treats and will sit nearby, watching you with those thoughtful eyes of hers. She isn’t the type to rush into affection — she needs trust, consistency, and someone who understands that love can grow slowly and beautifully. With time, she may allow gentle pets, but only after she knows you’re someone she can rely on.
This sweet girl has so much potential; she just needs someone willing to meet her where she is. Please give Mimosa a chance. The right home will help her feel secure, and in return, she’ll reward you with the quiet, tender companionship only a shy cat can give.
