For some time, I've been wanted to transition the smalls to a pelleted diet. The cockatiels already eat pellets. The four parakeets that came in this week already eat pellets. So this seems like a good time to follow through with the transition. I put 2 dishes of super fine pellets in the parakeet and finch aviary, and the zebra finches didn't hesitate to dive in. The other dishes have their regular seed and pellets mix. But it seems that the finches are all for pellets.

New Recipe: Blueberry pancakes.

Ingredients:

1 flax egg (1tbs ground flaxseed + 3tbs water)
1 mashed banana
Pinch or 2 cinnamon (or more according to taste)
1/2 cup Harrison's mash
1/2 cup oat or almond milk (homemade to avoid unwanted ingredients)
1/4 cup blueberries (or more)
Add-ins - I put in some pumpkin seeds.

Make flax egg. Let sit for a few minutes. Add mashed banana and cinnamon. Mix in mash and nut milk. Add blueberries and add-ins, if using. Cook as per usual pancakes, except about a tablespoon or less per pancake. CAUTION: let cool completely. Blueberries hold heat for a long time.

When completely cooled, serve. Makes about 20 pancakes.

These are not the parrots' usual breakfast, so I got a lot of curious glances this morning.

I'm taking a trip to Northfield today to join a different credit union and apply there for a mortgage. The small bird population has outgrown our current small bird room. We need a new facility (house.)
