Declawing Alternatives

Scratching is a natural behavior for our feline friends but where they choose to scratch can be frustrating. While surgery can seem like the only option there are some alternatives you can try to decrease the less desirable behaviors.

Alternatives:
-Keeping the nails trimmed
-Applying nail caps (such as soft paws)
-Making scratching posts available and attractive by placing catnip or treats around them
-Covering corners of furniture with plastic, aluminum foil or sticky tape temporarily

Chocolate toxicity

As Halloween approaches, it's essential for all dog owners to be aware of the potential dangers lurking in those tempting bags of sweets. Chocolate, a Halloween staple, can be highly toxic to our furry friends. Here's what you need to know to keep your dog safe:

šŸš« No Chocolate Treats for Fido: Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are toxic to dogs. Even small amounts can lead to symptoms of chocolate poisoning, including vomiting, diarrhea, rapid breathing, and even seizures.

šŸ‘ļø Keep Candy Out of Reach: Dogs have a knack for finding treats, so make sure all Halloween candy is stored securely, far away from your dog's access.

šŸ” Secure the Trash: After your Halloween festivities, dispose of candy wrappers and leftovers securely. Dogs may be attracted to the scent, and ingesting wrappers can lead to blockages.

šŸ¾ Know the Signs: Be vigilant for any signs of chocolate toxicity, such as restlessness, increased heart rate, panting, trembling, or excessive thirst. If you suspect your dog has ingested chocolate, call the office at 724-925-8244.

šŸ¾šŸ’™ Help Us Celebrate Our Amazing Veterinary Technicians! šŸ’™šŸ¾

National Veterinary Technician Week is coming up October 18thā€“24th, and we want YOUR help making it extra special! šŸ©ŗšŸ¶šŸ±

Our veterinary technicians work tirelessly behind the scenes (and in front of them!) to provide compassionate, dedicated care to your beloved pets. From offering a comforting hand during a difficult visit to going above and beyond to make your furry family members feel safe and loved, they truly are the heart of our clinic. ā¤ļø

Has one of our technicians ever made your visit extra special? Gone above and beyond for you or your pet? Made a difficult day a little easier?

We would LOVE to hear about it! šŸ„¹šŸ’•

We've created a special form where you can select the technician you'd like to recognize and leave them a few kind words about how they've made a difference.

šŸ’Œ Fill out the form here: https://form.jotform.com/262814636255057

We'll be sharing your thoughtful messages with our team during Vet Tech Week to remind them just how much their hard work, kindness, and dedication mean to the families they care for.

āœØ A few kind words can mean more than you know. Help us give our incredible technicians the recognition they deserve!

*I have included their photos with names, there are quite a few of us, and sometimes it is hard to remember who is who!*

With love,
The New Stanton Veterinary Service Team šŸ¾šŸ’™

Happy Friday! The ticks haven't gotten the memo yet that summer is over. We havenā€™t seen much of a change in tick numbers, and weā€™re still seeing the last of the blacklegged tick nymphs coming into the lab. Enjoy the cooler weather and fall foliage this week, but donā€™t forget to check for ticks after spending time outdoors!
