There are 8 species of bears; Asiatic Black, brown, giant pandas, North American black, polar, sloth bears, spectacle bears and the small sun bears. Bears have nonretractable claws, short tails, and excellent sense of smell. They can live up to 25 years in the wild and 50 in captivity. In winter, bears have an effective survival solution to the lack of food; hibernation. The heart rate, body temperature, metabolism, and respiration are all lowered. Some bears can hibernate and live off a layer of fat over 100 days without eating, drinking, urinating, or defecating. Nature‘s organisms adapt to survive in amazing ways
