Cuttin Coveys Kennels – Field Report
Sept 17 – Oct 18
Just wrapped up a solid stretch of bird work and wanted to share what I feel like were pointed, shootable birds if I was carrying a 20-gauge sh***un.
I guided clients on 18 of these days. The remaining days were spent working young dogs, and every evening finished with a puppy walk for the young dogs around camp. The dogs stayed busy and the birds were decent. We had to work for them most days but were able to find some. I would call it a 4/10 as far as numbers go/ covey sizes for what I’ve seen Montana upland hunting be.
Here’s the breakdown by dog:
• Xeno – 8
• Steve – 11
• Gus – 17
• Rusty – 28
• Goose – 2
• Henry – 4
• Dixie – 3
• Nova – 47
• Twix – 3
• Minnie – 16
• Boo – 0
• Flirt – 3
• Lyra – 2
• Sadie – 7
• Cam – 10
• Loki – 2
• Flo – 3
• Gauge – 4
• Savvy – 16
• Nikki – 9
• Marshall – 7
• Fly – 0
That’s roughly 195 pointed, shootable WILD birds across the group.
Proud of every one of these dogs. Some are seasoned, some are still learning, and all of them got honest work. Grateful for the clients who came out and for the chance to keep developing the next ones coming up.
If you’re looking to get your dog on birds or want to book a guided day, reach out. Our season is just getting started.
