MEET MARASCHINO: A LITTLE CHERRY WITH BIG DEER ENERGY.

Continuing with what has apparently become Old Lady Week at Zeus’ Rescues, we present Maraschino.

Maraschino is a 5-year-old Chihuahua/baby deer mix. And before anyone starts questioning our breed identification, LOOK AT HER. That is clearly a woodland creature who wandered out of a Disney movie, got lost on Freret Street, and is now demanding to be held.

She has two enormous satellite dishes for ears, the body of a slightly overfed woodland fairy, and a face that suggests she knows exactly what you did last summer.

And yes, she has cherry eyes. Hence the name Maraschino. Don't judge us. It's been a long week, we're running on caffeine and questionable decisions, and frankly, we're just proud we didn't name her Eyeballs McGee.

Maraschino's résumé:
5 years old, which apparently qualifies her for our senior citizen convention this week.

Under 10 pounds of concentrated adorable.

Heartworm negative!

Scheduled to have her baby-making equipment permanently decommissioned next week. The factory is closing. No severance packages.

Approximately 37% Chihuahua, 63% baby deer, and 100% convinced she belongs in your arms.

Gives the BEST hugs. Seriously. This tiny creature wraps herself around you like she's been waiting her whole life for someone to pick her up and tell her she's pretty.

We're not entirely sure whether Maraschino needs an adopter or a wildlife rehabilitation permit, but we do know she deserves a home where she can be loved, spoiled, and carried around like the precious little forest princess she clearly believes herself to be.

N**E SENIOR CITIZEN SEEKS RETIREMENT HOME. CLOTHING OPTIONAL.

Meet Tilly. Tilly is a 7-year-old Shih Tzu who was recently found wandering the streets, presumably after escaping a retirement community where management had the AUDACITY to enforce a dress code.

When Tilly arrived at Zeus' Rescues, she was covered in mats. Not a few tangles. We're talking seven years of questionable hair decisions rolled into one giant felted sweater. Her makeover required anesthesia because there was simply no negotiating with that situation.

And underneath all that hair?

A naked little baked potato with eyeballs.

Tilly is currently rocking what we call the "freshly plucked rotisserie chicken" look, and frankly, she's never felt more liberated.

She has dry eye and a skin infection, both of which we're treating. Her skin needs some TLC, but her personality? Absolutely delightful.

We've decided Tilly is a retired widow who spends her afternoons crocheting in the n**e, sipping Earl Grey, and watching Murder, She Wrote with the volume at 87.

She owns 14 decorative pillows, calls everyone "sugar," and has VERY strong opinions about the price of eggs.

She doesn't need a man. She doesn't need pants. She just needs someone to refill her teacup and occasionally tell her she's beautiful.

And she IS beautiful. In a slightly haunted Victorian doll kind of way.

Despite everything she's been through, Tilly is a sweet little lady who deserves a soft bed, a loving home, and the freedom to live out her golden years as the naked, tea-drinking, yarn-hoarding queen she was always meant to be.

MEET OOPSY: 4 MONTHS OLD. ZERO REMORSE.

Part-time houseplant assassin. Full-time ankle terrorist. Currently accepting applications for a human servant.

Why Oopsy? Glad you asked. We agreed to take in this adorable little kitten because we had an empty kennel. Easy peasy, right. OOPS. RINGWORM.

Instead of moving into Zeus’ Rescues, this tiny fungal fugitive was immediately shipped off to my house for quarantine. For an entire month, Oopsy lived in my guest bathroom, receiving medication, room service, and absolutely no rent invoices.

Once he was cleared to mingle, I released him into the general population of my house, where my resident asscats gave him a crash course in Catting 101. Unfortunately, they taught him EVERYTHING.

How to ambush unsuspecting ankles
How to turn houseplants into crime scenes
How to launch surprise attacks from under furniture
How to look innocent while actively committing felonies
How to establish complete household dominance despite weighing approximately three pounds

Oopsy graduated with honors. We are not proud.

Now officially ringworm-free, done with his meds, and back at Zeus’ Rescues, Oopsy is ready to take his criminal enterprise to a permanent location.

He loves cats, dogs, and humans of all sizes. He does NOT respect personal space, plant ownership, or your right to walk through your own home without being assaulted.

Oopsy is looking for a forever home with a sense of humor, a high tolerance for nonsense, and preferably some cheap houseplants.

Meet Skye: our “just add water” dog.

Some assembly required? Nope.
Complicated instructions? Absolutely not.
Five years of experience being a very good girl? INCLUDED.

Skye recently came back into our program, and we’re going to be blunt: she is perfect.

She loves people of ALL sizes. Big humans, little humans—if you’re a person, congratulations, you’re her type. Other dogs? Loves those, too. Skye is ready to slide right into your family like she’s been on the group text for years.

At five years old, she’s got plenty of life ahead of her and a heart ready to belong to someone again. Coming back to rescue means starting over, but Skye already has the “being a wonderful dog” part completely figured out.

Meet Wiley: President of the Playgroup. Chairman of Shenanigans. Enemy of Squirrels.

Wiley is a 2-year-old Siberian Husky with a zest for life and the confidence of someone who has never once wondered, “Am I being too much?”

He’s the ringleader of his playgroup: the guy getting everybody hyped up like, “WE HAVE A YARD. WE HAVE FRIENDS. WHY ARE WE STANDING AROUND?!”

He loves ALL humans and would be a fantastic best friend for active kids. Looking for a teammate for backyard adventures, family walks, and general tomfoolery? Wiley would like to submit his résumé. His qualifications include enthusiasm, excellent hair, and extensive experience as Director of Fun.

And somehow, this handsome party director has been with Zeus’ Rescues over a year. A whole year of watching other dogs find their families while he waits for someone to pick him.

Now, we know what you’re thinking: A husky? Isn’t my house going to sound like a wolf opera?

Plot twist: Wiley doesn’t sing the song of his people like most huskies do. Apparently, he delegates the musical numbers. He handles recreation.

But we do need to discuss his relationship with wildlife.

Squirrels? Wanted criminals.
Cats? Absolutely not roommates.

Wiley has a strong prey drive toward cats and squirrels, so he needs a cat-free home, a secure yard, and a family prepared to manage that instinct carefully on walks.

His dream is an active family who will include him in the fun. A compatible dog buddy would be awesome but not necessary.

Wiley has spent over a year being the life of our party. It’s time he got to be the love of someone’s life.

PIPER UPDATE: City Park rescue pup. Professional good girl. Amateur plushie surgeon. Full-time snuggle enthusiast.

Piper is one of the eight dogs we rescued from City Park, and she is absolutely blossoming in her foster home!

Her foster family reports that she’s completely house trained, gentle, happy, quiet, and very content. She isn’t destructive… unless you’re a stuffed animal. Then we cannot guarantee your safety.

Her daily schedule:
• Play with toys for hours.
• Run at approximately 400 mph for ten minutes.
• Immediately collapse for a nap.
• Find a lap.
• Receive confirmation that she is, in fact, a good girl.
• Repeat.

Piper walks well on a leash and loves a stroll, although she prefers to handle her bathroom business in the yard. Apparently, she appreciates the privacy of her own facilities.

She sleeps peacefully in her crate all night without crying and even chooses it for daytime naps with the door open. She happily entertains herself with toys, but she’d also enjoy a compatible dog buddy.

Working from home? Piper would like to apply for Under-Desk Nap Supervisor. She’ll curl up around your feet while you work, then accept lap time when you clock out. Her salary requirements are affection and being told she’s a good girl.

She’s still a little shy at first, and busy, overstimulating places can scare her. She seems interested in other dogs on walks, but the dog park is overwhelming. Gentle introductions and a comfortable routine are more her speed.

Even her early worries around mealtime are easing as she settles into foster life. Watching her learn that she can relax, play, and be loved has been pretty wonderful.

Piper is an easygoing puppy who loves her toys, loves her people, and would really love a home of her own.

Meet Jo-Jo: 17 pounds of love, excellent manners, and an underbite so perfect it deserves its own headshot.

At 3–4 years old, Jo-Jo is ready to resume his regularly scheduled dog life. He’d like walks, couch time, snacks, and the freedom to spend an unreasonable amount of time investigating one particular patch of grass. Please don’t rush him. There’s a whole story there.

His résumé is suspiciously good: he sits on command, walks well on a leash, is housebroken, and likes other dogs and cats. He’s loving and affectionate, and he has that little underbite working overtime to make everyone fall in love with him. Frankly, it’s effective.

Jo-Jo is neutered, heartworm negative, and in good overall health. He does have a flea allergy that’s been treated. The fleas are banned from his next chapter.

Jo-Jo has spent enough time watching life happen from the sidelines. He’s ready to get out, make some friends, and become deeply invested in your daily routine. Taking out the trash? He’s coming. Checking the mail? He’s coming. Sitting down for a minute? Excellent. He’s been waiting for that.
