Meet Bourbon. Named after where he was found, not after his personality. Although, much like a night on Bourbon Street, he occasionally makes questionable decisions and has absolutely no concept of personal space.

This 7–8 week old pit bull puppy was purchased from someone selling him on Bourbon Street Saturday night for $40 by a Good Samaritan who couldn't leave him behind after looking at the pleading look in his eyes.

Now he's safe.

Unfortunately, puppies and kennels go together about as well as puppies and clean floors.

Bourbon should be spending his days doing important puppy things like:

Running full speed into walls he didn't see coming
Falling asleep mid-zoomie
Carrying around objects larger than his own body
Learning that toes are not actually chew toys
Forgetting where he put the toy that's literally in his mouth
Looking shocked every single time he hiccups
Mastering the art of peeing approximately 3 seconds after you thought he was finished

We need a foster or adopter ASAP.

The good news? We provide everything:

Food
Medical care
Crate
Enough puppy pads to make you question whether one creature can produce that much urine
Ongoing support

Because Bourbon is still too young to be fully vaccinated, he can't go exploring the world just yet. But he CAN safely live inside a home with fully vaccinated dogs who can help teach him the secrets of doghood.

If you've been missing the sound of tiny feet sprinting through your house at 2,000 miles per hour, followed by complete silence because the puppy has suddenly fallen asleep upside down in the middle of the room, Bourbon may be exactly what you need.

Fostering saves lives. Adopting changes them forever.

Apply today at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks!! Michelle

Meet Toast. Toast is learning that the world might not be so scary after all.

When this tiny 3-year-old chihuahua arrived as a found stray, every single bone in his body was showing. You could see the story of survival written all over him. Hunger. Fear. Uncertainty. The kind of exhaustion that settles deep into a soul.

But even after everything he’s been through, Toast still wants love.

Not immediately. Not recklessly. He’s timid and careful and likes to take his time deciding if a human is safe. But once you’re chosen? Oh man… this little dog LOVES with his whole heart.

Since coming to us, Toast has started his comeback tour:
✔️ Weight gain
✔️ Neutered
✔️ Vaccinated
✔️ Slowly learning that soft beds and full meals are normal

What he really needs now is a quiet place to keep healing.

A calm foster home would do wonders for him. An adopter with patience and a gentle heart would change his life forever. Loud homes and small children are just too overwhelming for him right now, so he’s looking for a peaceful environment where he can continue building confidence at his own pace.

Toast still has a long road ahead of him — but for the first time in a long time, it’s finally leading somewhere good. If interested in fostering or adopting Toast, please complete the online application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

🚨 KITTEN SEASON EMERGENCY SALE 🚨

Y'all... the kittens are coming.

Actually, scratch that.

The kittens are HERE. They are under porches. They are in sheds. They are in engine compartments. They are in your neighbor's backyard.

Every spring and summer, our shelter gets buried under an avalanche of tiny paws, loud meows, spicy attitudes, and endless bottles of kitten formula. Right now, we already have a waiting list of kittens hoping for one of our very limited spots.

So we're launching a HALF-OFF KITTEN ADOPTION SPECIAL! Kittens are just $150 to adopt.

Before anyone says, "That's a lot for a cat," let's talk about what comes with your new furry chaos gremlin:

✔️ Three rounds of vaccines
✔️ Multiple dewormings
✔️ Spay or neuter surgery
✔️ Microchip
✔️ Starter bag of Science Diet food

In other words, we've already spent way more than $150 getting your kitten ready for their forever home.

Every kitten adopted means:
❤️ One more kennel opens up
❤️ One more kitten gets rescued
❤️ One less kitten trying to stage a prison break from our nursery

But adoption is only half the battle.

If we truly want to stop "kitten season" from becoming a year-round kitten apocalypse, we have to address the source: unaltered community cats.

That's where our amazing friends at Trap Dat Cat come in. They work tirelessly to Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) feral and community cats throughout New Orleans, preventing thousands of future kittens from being born into lives of hardship.

If you know of stray or feral cats in your neighborhood, please report them here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScltWMYsenpJmnOSfiGAbQpAXTT3H_MY3FuJuVIbZR_2Zmxtg/viewform

Every cat fixed today means fewer kittens suffering tomorrow.

So if you've been thinking about adding a tiny furry roommate to your family—one who will judge your life choices, attack your shoelaces, and sprint through your house at 3 a.m. for absolutely no reason—now is the time.

Help us make room. Help us save lives. Help us survive kitten season.

Because the kittens are coming whether we're ready or not. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Daisy Jane. Daisy Jane is only 2 years old, but somehow she’s already lived through one of the cruelest realities a dog can face.

She was found as a stray, surviving on her own… only for her owner to be located and simply say he didn’t want her anymore.

And honestly? That stings.

Because too often, once dogs are no longer tiny, “cute” puppies, they’re discarded like yesterday’s news. Tossed aside when they still have years of love, loyalty, and life left to give.

Daisy deserves better.

She’s also a black dog — and sadly, “black dog syndrome” is very real. Black dogs are statistically overlooked in shelters far more often, passed by for flashier coats while absolute gems like Daisy wait far too long.

But Daisy Jane?
She has SO much living left to do.

She absolutely loves long walks with our incredible volunteer dog walking army, thrives on companionship, and is ready for someone who understands that healing takes patience.

Daisy doesn’t enjoy being alone, and after being abandoned by the only home she knew, can you really blame her?

She would do best in:
🐾 A calm, stable home
🐾 An adult-only household or one without young children
🐾 A patient adopter who understands her background
🐾 A family willing to show her that forever really means forever

Daisy Jane may scare easily, but beneath that uncertainty is a beautiful soul who simply wants safety, consistency, and love.

She’s not broken.
She’s rebuilding.
New Orleanians know a little about that...

And we know the right person is out there — someone who will see beyond her past and give her the future she deserves.

Let’s prove to Daisy that her story doesn’t end with being abandoned.

It starts with being chosen. Complete the application at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

Meet Sadie: our long-term resident, full-time chaos goblin, and undisputed employee favorite.

Sadie has been with us since August 2024, which frankly feels rude at this point because this hilarious meatball should have been scooped up ages ago.

When Sadie first arrived, she was nervous, heartworm positive, and unsure of the world. Now? She’s healthy, thriving, and has fully evolved into a wrecking ball of love, zoomies, and unapologetic nonsense.

Let’s be clear:
Other dogs? Hard pass.
Cats? Absolutely not.
Her people? The center of her entire universe.

Sadie is what we lovingly call “selective” — she prefers to keep her social circle exclusive, but once you’re in? Congratulations. You now have a clingy, snuggly, slightly unhinged best friend for life.

Her hobbies include:
• Olympic-level zoomies
• Excavating holes like she’s searching for buried treasure
• Sunbathing with dramatic flair
• Destroying toys at an impressive speed
• Treat quality control
• Ignoring all concepts of personal space

A fenced yard is required because this girl takes her recreational sprinting very seriously.

Sadie is basically a one-dog stand-up comedy routine wrapped in muscle, wiggles, and affection. She may not want furry siblings, but she has more than enough personality to fill your whole house.

If you’ve been searching for a loyal best friend, professional cuddle enforcer, and daily source of laughter, Sadie is your girl.

Apply to adopt this perfectly imperfect queen at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle

When Rasta was left by our back door in January, tucked inside a tiny kennel with a handwritten note that simply read, “Please find me a good home,” we knew this handsome ginger boy deserved a second chance.

And wow…has he made the most of it.

At just one year old, Rasta has blossomed into the total package:
🧡 Handsome
🧡 Playful
🧡 Cuddly
🧡 Chatty
🧡 Full of orange-cat charisma

His foster says he is the perfect mix of fun and affection — equally happy zooming around the house chasing toys as he is curling up in bed beside you at night. He’s energetic, entertaining, and always ready to tell you about his day. Whether he’s leaping through the apartment like a tiny tiger or snuggling up for pets, Rasta brings joy everywhere he goes.

Sure, he may toss in a playful love bite now and then (because boundaries are important, obviously), but underneath that fiery ginger spirit is a truly loving cat who just wants a home to call his own.

From abandoned at our doorstep…to thriving in foster care…to now searching for his forever family.

Rasta’s story isn’t over yet — his happily ever after is still out there. If it is you, please fill out the adoption app at www.zeusrescues.org. Thanks! Michelle
