Imagine waking on on this beautiful July 4th, about to check on the extremely critical baby bird that came in the day before, you first check the phone to see if any bird calls came in, only for the first text greeting you to be: ābird killerā.
I didnāt even open it at first, and Iām STILL catching up with non emergency texts from the past couple of days and my time is precious, as Iām on bird duty the moment I wake up till after dark.
Thereās been an increase in birds coming in after all the recent storms and street flooding. I expect even more birds tomorrow after the fireworks disorient and injure a good number of them. New Orleans being a wedding destination city, I also get regular calls about white pigeons from ādove releasesā. Most die before they even get to me, like the two I was waiting on a couple of days ago.
People donāt realize how much time, strength, will power, money, and determination it takes. Donations are desperately needed, especially in this heat, as overheated birds found laying in direct sunlight for who knows how many hours, need immediate fluids and electrolytes just to stabilize them. Iām doing my best with no help and limited funds and resources. This being a holiday weekend, thereās no sending aythung in need of help to LSU until Monday.
I desperately need donations, and honestly, Iām getting fed up with being attacked for asking. I donāt know of any rescue in the world that doesnāt ask the public for donations, the very same public that a rescue makes itself available to. $5 a month will not feed all the birds in my care, or the ones constantly coming in. I will gladly refund any donation that wasnāt given from a pure heart, and given only to be used as an excuse to verbally bash me later. People donāt realize that not one of my birds eats the Walmart brand $3 bird seed, and any pet bird coming in that HAS been fed those seeds is immediately transitioned to the proper healthy diet of pellets and fresh fruit//veggies, which costs money. They eat EVERY DAY. I canāt believe I have to tell everyone this. Chickens eat one type of diet, starlings another, parrots something totally different, ducks get duck pellets, some of the song birds are on a cat food based diet, some require tube feedings, so I have to either make a special formula, or buy it online. Thatās not counting the constant resupplying of antibiotics, medical supplies, first aid supplies, etc.
Please donate if you are able. I canāt keep doing this without my communityās help. We donāt have enough bird people here, and no new ones stepping up willing to learn.

This is just the FOOD I purchase locally or online. That doesnāt include the fresh produce. Iām not including the antibiotics, the pain meds, the first aid supplies, the IV fluids, syringes, etc. etc. None of it is free. Donations are barely coming in.
Iām doing what I can, and paying for 99% of it out of my own pocket because only 1% of the people who drop off a bird make a donation. Most of the birds I get come in already crashing, requiring emergency care. Only a very small percentage are owner surrenders. I donāt know from one day to the next what will walk through the door, and how badly injured it will be.
Only unhinged people resort to threats. It shows a complete lack of emotional maturity, or intelligence. To harass, call over and over, threaten, and barrage a rescue doing their best to help animas in need. Who does that?
Thank you!!! š„°ā¤ļøšļø
