Since 2013, The ACORN Farm has been operating a an organic, nonprofit urban farm and community space dedicated to increasing food access and education in the Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans MAILING ADDRESS: 2221 St. The Acorn Farm is an organic, nonprofit urban farm and community space dedicated to increasing food access and education in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. There is more produce being

grown in Orleans Parish today than at any point since New Orleans was a french colony. Yet many of our neighborhoods still struggle to access fresh food on a regular basis. The nearest grocery store is almost 2.5 miles from our farm and takes about an hour to reach on our public transit system. The Acorn Farm, and others like it throughout our neighborhood are working to change that by providing better choices through farmers markets and educational opportunities that encourage residents to grow their own food with us or at home. We grow crops organically without the use of chemicals or pesticides. This is an intensive process requiring countless hours of labor, hundreds of pounds of compost created on site, and constant vigilance against pests and disease. Our site also functions as a Community Green Space, which is located on our Tricou Avenue lot. We are currently building a community friendly space for our neighbors that will also serve as a venue for growers to visit and learn about sustainable growing techniques. The Acorn Farm strives to develop growing systems that more closely mimic the natural rhythms of our environment. We try to reconnect with our ecosystem by promoting healthy soil, plants, and insects on our land. We depend on the help of volunteers help accomplish our goals to develop a sustainable community and environment. Interested in volunteering with The Acorn Farm?
