🐾💕🐕 Dr. Urbanek took her kids to Wetzel County’s kick off to summer picnic today (btw great event👍) where they got to meet 3 sweet pups that are available for adoption through New Wetzel County Animal Shelter Page! These pups are 6 months old and can’t control their lickers! 😝 They did great with the crowd and are clearly kid friendly! If you are looking for a new furry family member, go check them out at Wetzel County Animal Shelter! 🐾❤️🐶

🌞🌡️With the summer temperatures here to stay, we want to discuss heat stroke/exhaustion in pets!

What it is: Heat stroke (hyperthermia) happens when an animal’s body can’t cool down and its internal temperature rises dangerously (often ≥104°F / 40°C).

Who’s at risk: Brachycephalic breeds (e.g., bulldogs, pugs), puppies, senior pets, overweight animals, thick-coated breeds, short-nosed cats, and any pet left in hot cars or confined, poorly ventilated spaces. Exercise in hot/humid weather increases risk to every animal.

Signs to watch for: Heavy, noisy panting; drooling; weakness or collapse; vomiting or diarrhea; bright red or pale gums; unsteady gait; disorientation; seizures; very high body temperature if you can safely check it.

What to do immediately:
1. Move the pet to shade/air‑conditioned area.
2. Cool them gradually: wet their coat with cool (not ice‑cold) water, apply cool, damp towels to neck, chest, and paws, and use a fan.
3. Offer small amounts of water if the pet is conscious and able to drink.
4. Seek emergency veterinary care right away because heat stroke can cause organ failure hours after apparent improvement.

Prevention tips: Never leave pets in cars; walk during cooler hours; provide shade and fresh water; avoid strenuous activity on hot/humid days; trim long coats appropriately (not shaving short-coated breeds); recognize breed‑specific risk.

Heat stroke is a life‑threatening emergency. Share this so more pets stay safe.

🐾🐈‍⬛❤️ Luna is a 7 year old beautiful calico kitty who came in a few weeks ago because her owner noticed an abnormal discharge from her v***a. Luna had not been previously spayed and she was diagnosed with a pyometra, a life threatening infection in her uterus that required emergency surgery that day to spay her to get rid of the infection. Dr. Urbanek got her all fixed up and we are happy to report she is doing great! Luna’s owner had never heard of a pyometra before and didn’t even know that that could happen to cats. She was happy to let us share Luna’s story in hopes that it encourages more pet owners to have their pets spayed, to avoid this life threatening issue. 🐾💕🐈
