Building a good foundation of leash walking at home is essential to getting your puppy or adult dog to walk nicely on a leash in public. Skipping this step and expecting them to just know what to do will end with you and your puppy both being frustrated. Instead, practice every day at home so that they already know what you expect when the environment changes. Be patient and keep it fun!

We are Michael and Lauren, the owners, designers, creators, and manufacturers at Adventure Hound. All of our collars and leashes are handcrafted by us in our home in New Market, TN. All of our products are made of genuine Biothane®️Beta, which is a coated webbing that is waterproof, durable and easy to clean. We began this adventure through a need for products to fit our dog-centric lifestyle. Having 7 personal dogs that play multiple sports, plus training and boarding dogs as well, we have a unique view of the wants and needs of dog owners. So, we strive to make products that are useful on multiple levels for any pup and their human. We hope you love them as much as we do!

Walking nicely on leash is hard for puppies and not something they are born knowing how to do. Setting them up for success from the start will give you and your puppy greater success in the long run. Remember to meet your puppy where they are and raise the bar accordingly.

Teaching your puppy to come when called starts out pretty simple. You need a leash, a high value reward, and to always make coming when called a pleasant experience! Once your puppy has the basics down, then start making it more challenging by adding in distractions, practicing in new places, and from further and further away.

We have all seen dogs shut down due to feeling frustrated, but did you know that you can teach your dog how to work through it?

By using exercises that are mildly frustrating, and gradually increasing difficulty, you can teach your dog to work through those feelings and use their brain instead to work out the solution.

Make sure to start small and gradually increase the challenge, and DON’T HELP! Let them work it out on their own!!

You’ll help them to build confidence in themselves by letting them do the work!
