We haven’t posted much lately - winter is triage time. I had a planned procedure in December and our first winter showed us what our spring priorities are.
The end of January also came with an unexpected cancer diagnosis and another surgery. I had a double mastectomy with axillary dissection on March 9th.
Cancer may take over for now but we won’t let it take away anything we are trying to build.
Dealing with the mud, muck, and p**p is one of our first priorities. Clearing out the pens and getting the pea gravel installed as soon as weather allows will help us control the mud next winter and spring which will make it a ton easier to maintain the stalls and pens.
Along with this process is trenching water and power to the barn. We have a few automatic waters to install that will hopefully make chores next winter so much more simple.
As the field dries out we need to put up a few bigger pastures for grazing and figure out what we are going to do to get the hay cut and baled. Originally tilling up a riding arena was also on list but not sure how much riding we will be getting to.
Hopefully we will be able to juggle treatment and still make the improvements necessary to reduce stress next winter.
At least when they roll in the snow they aren’t mudballs.
