🎉 It’s No Joke! 🎉

Spring is here and so are PAS patterns & requirements!

Make sure you review the important rules below before heading into show season:

🐴 A youth may only use one horse for PAS shows and cannot switch horses after competing in their first PAS class. The horse shown at the State Fair must be the same one used to qualify.

🐴 Exhibitors may enter a maximum of four (4) PAS horse classes at the State Fair Junior Horse Show, plus Ground Roping (which does not count toward the four-class limit).

🐴 To compete in showmanship, riding, or driving classes, youth must qualify in at least two (2) PAS classes.

🐴 To compete at the OSFJHS all horses MUST have a negative Coggins drawn on or after January 1, 2026.

🐴 Youth showing in Ground Roping ONLY must qualify in Ground Roping at a PAS show, but do not need to qualify in any other PAS classes.

Be sure to plan ahead and get those qualifications in—good luck this season! 🍀

Isn’t he pretty 😍

This is the sire to our c**t, Rydin The Blues. If you are looking for a great place to buy your babies from, we highly recommend Buck Creek Roans.

Ground work and desensitizing are crucial in our opinion. Doing it while they’re young sets them up to be great mounts in the future. As you can see this c**t is getting pretty use to our super fancy tool. (Just a bag connected to the end of a training stick😅)

✨ Offered for Your Consideration: Chica-Linda — 3 Year-Old Mustang Pony ✨

Chica-Linda is a beautiful and exceptionally willing 3-year-old Mustang pony who has been in consistent training five days a week for the past four months. She has also been confidently ridden by a 10-year-old rider. Throughout her training, she has never offered to buck, rear, kick, or display any undesirable behavior.

Soft, responsive, and level-headed, Chica-Linda rides bridleless and has been thoroughly desensitized—nothing seems to phase her. She works comfortably in an arena, round pen, open fields, and on the trails. She crosses water, steps over logs, and handles new environments with ease. She has been introduced to the barrel pattern and shows natural aptitude. She would be an excellent 4H or rodeo pony for a youth.

This sweet, versatile pony is ready to continue in any direction and is searching for her forever home.

• PPE welcomed at buyer’s expense

Equine herpesvirus (EHV) is a family of equine viruses named by numbers including EHV-1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 with EHV-1,3,4 posing the most risk for domestic horses. EHV is a common DNA virus that occurs in horse populations worldwide. The two most common species are EHV-1 and EHV-4.

What is Equine Herpesvirus (EHV)?

You've probably heard it called Rhinopneumonitis, a respiratory tract disease that results in "snotty noses," but EHV is more than that. Depending on the strain, this virus can also cause abortion in broodmares, and equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy (EHM) — the often-deadly neurologic form of the disease.

Because EHV is endemic in many equine populations, most mature horses have developed some immunity through repeated natural infection. However, they remain a source of infection for other susceptible horses, like weaned foals and yearlings, who usually display symptoms of the respiratory form of the disease in autumn and winter. Performance and show horses are also more vulnerable to the disease, as they commingle with unfamiliar equines in close quarters while under stress from travel and competition.

Proper biosecurity protocols can help reduce EHV outbreaks and other disease transmission. A variety of vaccines are also available for protection against both the respiratory and abortive form of the disease, but there is no equine licensed vaccine at this time that has a label claim for protection against the neurologic form (EHM).

Consult your primary equine veterinarian to learn more about this disease and work with them to determine the optimal vaccine protocol for your horses.

You can learn more about all three forms on the Equine Disease Communication Center's website here: https://equinediseasecc.org/infectious-diseases
