"Family dog that hunts" isn't just a tagline. THIS is what it means. 💛🐾

While hunting season calls, some jobs are just too important to leave the whelping box. This mom is giving her all—and loving every minute.

Mid-season sharpness isn't magic. It starts here. 💛

This little yellow girl — she's got no idea yet what she's going to become. But the work starts NOW.

The habits you build as a puppy carry ALL the way through the season. Patience. Self-control. Attention. Trust. These aren't skills you develop in October — they're skills you build from the very beginning.

Want to keep your dog sharp mid-season? It takes only a few minutes of daily drills — recall, steadiness, focus work. Keep that edge. Don't let the season train bad habits into them.

Consistent. Every day. That's the Hillcrest way. 🐾

The in-between moments. 🌾

After the retrieve. Before the next send.Sitting steady in the reeds with two ducks on the platform beside her, fall Minnesota surrounding everything.

These quiet moments in the field are some of my favorites. The work is done. The dog is content. The world is absolutely gorgeous.

This is fall at Hillcrest Farm — and we are SO grateful to live this life. 🐾

Hard-working dogs need REST too. 💤🐾

After a big day in the field — all the running, retrieving, swimming, hunting — recovery is PART of the program. Just like any athlete, your dog needs time to rest and rebuild.

These two cuddled up together on their bed after a long day out... I mean, how cute is this? Yellow and black, completely wiped out and completely content.

Some things to think about during season:

🐾 Check paws for cuts, burrs, and soreness
💧 Keep water available at all times
🛏 Give them a cozy, warm place to rest
🐶 Watch for limping or unusual soreness after hard days

Your hunting dog works HARD for you. Take care of them. They're family. ❤️

THE OPENER DID NOT DISAPPOINT. 🌾

Four dogs. One incredible day. And a workbench that tells the WHOLE story.

Y'all. LOOK at that. We couldn't be more proud of these dogs and the work they put in. Every single one of them showed up and showed OUT for opener weekend.

This is what happens when you train all year long. When you build the foundation. When you trust the process.

IT'S PHEASANT OPENER AND I AM LOSING MY MIND 🌾🎉

The most exciting morning of the year in Minnesota — PHEASANT OPENER — is HERE.

Look at this photo. We don't discriminate- bird dogs don't HAVE to be Labs. Great hunting days bring out the whole crew. Several beautiful pheasants on the ground, open sky, golden morning light. THAT is an opener.

The dogs are ready. The fields are loaded. Let's GO.

To everyone out in the fields today — safe hunting, good dogs, and full vests! 🐾

DUCK SEASON RECAP 🦆💦

Wet dog. Bird in mouth. Pure, unfiltered joy.

This is what all the training leads to. Every steadiness drill, every water retrieve, every early morning session — it all comes together in THIS moment.

This soaking wet girl at the water's edge holding that duck... I could look at this photo all day. 😍

Our dogs are made for this. Bred for it. Trained for it. And they LOVE it.

How has duck season been for you? Drop your best moment in the comments! 🐾

The first bird. 🌾✨

There is NOTHING quite like watching a young dog discover what they were born to do. The moment that instinct clicks — that's a moment you never forget.

A young hunter holding their first pheasant, with three beautiful dogs right at his side— this photo gives me ALL the feels. This is why we do this. Not just dogs and hunting, but PEOPLE and dogs and hunting and family and legacy.

That's what Hillcrest Farm is about. 🐾

A real hunting day at Hillcrest Farm. 🌾

Two of our pups pushing through the cattails, fall colors exploding behind them — this is the marsh on a good October morning.

Judd and the dogs live for days like this. Out in the thick of it, working together, doing what they were meant to do. You can't manufacture this kind of thing. It's real, it's raw, and it's absolutely beautiful.
