WOLF RIVER TRAILS — FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We’ve been getting LOTS of calls and messages lately, so we wanted to put our most commonly asked questions all in one place! Please read through these before calling, your answer may already be here. ❤️
🐴 Do I need a reservation?
YES! All horseback rides, wagon rides, and Meet & Greets are by appointment. Please book ahead. CAMPERS- More than likely, we will be booked the weekend you’re staying. Please book ahead! We book solid before the weekend hits! Fastest and best way to book is HERE: https://wolfrivertrailsllc.as.me/
🐴 Can we pay when we get there?
No. There are important forms to fill out using our online system. This also prevents no shows.
🐴 Do you have a mounting block to get on?
YES! Our large mounting stairs make getting on easier for riders, but more importantly, they reduce pulling and twisting on the horse’s back and saddle. With as many riders as our horses carry, using the stairs helps keep them comfortable and protects their backs. ❤️ Horse welfare always comes first!
🐴 How much are horseback rides?
Our Guided Group Rides are $65 per person. $75 if you’d like to ride into the river.
🐴 How long is the experience?
Plan for approximately 1 hour total. This includes getting everyone ready, matched with their horse, and the riding experience. Saddle time may not be a full 60 minutes.
🐴 Do we go into the Wolf River?
When river, trail, and weather conditions allow, we ride into the water. It’s an amazing experience.
🐴 Do you take beginners?
YES! Most of our riders are beginners or have very little riding experience. We match riders with horses based on experience, size, and ability.
🐴 Is there a weight limit?
Yes. Our maximum rider weight is 280 lbs. This is for the health and safety of our horses.
🐴 How old do you have to be?
We have options for different ages! We’ve had as young as five years old ride a horse independently with the help of your guides leading the horse. I do have a saddle that can accommodate younger children on the back of your saddle. We also allow lap riding, although it’s not super comfortable. Children can also ride with the guides if caretaker isn’t confident. Young children who aren’t ready for a trail ride can still enjoy our Meet & Greet experience.
🐴 How many people can ride at once?
We typically take groups of up to 6 riders at a time. If you have a larger group, contact us and we can discuss options.
🐴 What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?
Horseback riding is weather-dependent. Extreme heat, storms, poor air quality, unsafe trails, or other conditions may require us to reschedule or cancel. The horses’ and riders’ safety always comes first.
🐴 Where are you located?
Wolf River Trails is located at Wolf River Trips & Campground in New London, Wisconsin. We are at the end of Flease road by red barn. Not actually inside campground. Drive through campground and see signs.
🐴 Do you offer wagon rides?
YES! We now offer horse-drawn wagon rides as well! Our wagon can accommodate approximately 8 people, with possible additional room depending on the number and ages of children. They’re great for families, birthdays, proposals, bachelor/bachelorette parties, events, and more.
🐴 Can I just call to book?
We strongly encourage using our online booking system whenever possible. It shows our current openings and is the fastest way to reserve your spot.
PLEASE NOTE: We are a working horse farm and are often outside riding, caring for horses, or helping customers. We simply cannot answer every phone call throughout the day.
If you have a question that isn’t answered here, TEXTING is the fastest and easiest way to reach us. We can respond to a text much easier between rides than we can stop to answer a phone call.
Thank you SO much for keeping us busy and supporting Wolf River Trails! We truly appreciate every person who comes out to ride, meet the horses, or take a wagon ride with us.
