๐ถ IMPULSE CONTROL: TEACHING YOUR DOG TO THINK BEFORE THEY ACT! ๐ถ
Does your dog struggle with jumping, pulling on the leash, rushing through doors, barking at other dogs, or getting overly excited when distractions are around?
These are all opportunities to work on IMPULSE CONTROL! ๐พ
At All About The K-9, we teach dogs that they donโt always have to react to everything they see, hear, or want. We help dogs learn to slow down, focus, and make better choices. ๐
๐ What does impulse control look like in our training sessions?
โ
Waiting patiently instead of rushing through a door.
โ
Sitting and staying calm when meeting people.
โ
Walking on a leash without constantly pulling.
โ
Looking at distractions without immediately reacting.
โ
Waiting for permission before getting a toy, treat, or meal.
โ
Checking in with their owner instead of focusing on everything around them.
โ
Learning to settle and remain calm around other dogs.
๐พ Remember: A well trained dog isnโt just a dog that knows commands. Itโs a dog that learns how to make good choices, even when distractions are present!
Impulse control takes repetition, consistency, patience, and practice. Just like people, dogs need guidance and opportunities to learn how to manage their excitement.
At All About The K-9 we work with both the dog AND the owner because training doesnโt stop when class ends. What you practice at home every day makes a difference! ๐
