Transparency has always been incredibly important to me as a breeder. Without open communication, it’s difficult for any of us to make truly informed, responsible decisions. Temperament, health, and overall soundness—both physical and mental—are always at the forefront of every breeding I plan. That said, my dogs represent only one side of the equation, and I rely heavily on the same level of honesty and transparency from others involved.
I truly believe our community would benefit from more consistent reporting of health concerns as they arise. Having access to that kind of information allows all of us to make better choices with the long-term health and longevity of our dogs in mind.
With that in mind, I want to share that I was recently made aware that one puppy from the Floof x Halo litter has been diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy. This was unexpected and understandably concerning. To my knowledge, this is the first instance of seizures in a dog I have produced that has been brought to my attention.
This line has a long history behind it—Tala (great granddam) lived to nearly 16, Nymbus (granddam) is currently 13, and Halo is 5. There are multiple dogs out there that share this pedigree, and I have not received reports of seizures in related dogs to date.
I’ve also spoken with Floof’s owner/breeder, who was equally surprised, as she has not seen epilepsy or seizure-related issues in her line either.
Floof is currently 6 years old, has other litters on the ground, and there are also nieces out of his littermate—all of which, to my knowledge, are doing well without seizure-related concerns.
For transparency and educational purposes, I will be sharing the pedigrees of both Floof and Halo. As always, I’m open to respectful conversation and am happy to discuss further via private message. If you have any information regarding dogs in either pedigree, I would love to hear it.
Thank you to those who continue to value open dialogue and shared information for the betterment of our dogs.
Edit to add that he has been on Simpiraca Trio. Not implying this is the sole cause, but good to know.
